I have heard from a few other FM sufferers that Smoking is just plain BAD. Can someone extrapolate? Give me the scoop!

Thanks and my prayers are for all!

Re: SMOKING - Tell me about how quitting will help

OH, I wish i could help, I'm right here with you wondering how to quite, i've turned into a chain smoker since i never leave the house and am bored. boredom does more damage i think than m fibro at times! I'd love love to quit. i asked my doc if it affects firbro and he says no, but he still said it's good to quit. all docs say that, i know it's true though. fibroi is enough i don't want lung cancer either. i smoke 2 packs a day. it's horrible. depression is why really i think more than boredom. or maybe a combo of both, the only way to quit from what my sister says is cold turkey or wellbutrin/zyban which is the same thing, my dad says the patch, each person has to figure out which works best for them, most importantly you have to really want to quit or nothing will work.
good luck you to,

Re: SMOKING - Tell me about how quitting will help

Hi Ladies: Yes smoking is bad, even for fibro. The smoke reaches all parts of the body. I am no angel, I smoke too, but ever since I have been on the Baclofen I have lost my desire to smoke, (not altogether though), I have smoked for 44 years, a pack or more a day, now I am down to 2-3 cigs a day, and it takes me all day to smoke them, I take a puff and put it out. It seems everything is bad for us, especially aspertame as well. Good luck, have a good day today.

Re: SMOKING - Tell me about how quitting will help

Hi again: I just posted a post then I remembered something else. This pharmacist said your muscles need oxygen also. I enjoy a smoke, even though I am down to nil, fibro has robbed me everything, so I think I am entitled to one vice. I cannot go out to socialize, shopping either, unless I am in a wheelchair and my son or sons are with me, I don't cook anymore. I manage cleaning when I have taken my night time meds. They help a lot with the pain but my housework is still not to my satisfaction. I live alone, which is downright depressing (forgot I do have my little pooch), trips to the dr are a social event for me. I am getting depressing, sorry, just vented a little. Take care of yourself.

Re: SMOKING - Tell me about how quitting will help

Hiya,

yeah, a smoker here, too, tho' ONLY (haha!) 5-6 cigs a day - unless it's a baaaaaad day, then more. I think one of the worst effects for fibromites is the lack of cellular oxygen created by smoking. Smoking really reduces the amount of oxygen the body is able to absorb from the blood, and for us, it just compounds an already tenuous scenario. Lack of oxygen in the muscle and fascia tissue can lead to exacerbated pain, which is why exercise is BENEFICIAL to fibromites. Exercise gets the O2 pumping thru our muscles, and increases pain-reducing endorphin release.

Hope that answers some of your question.
