Fibro doctors in St. Louis, MO

I am new to this message group and was wondering if anyone has a good fibro doctor in St. Louis, MO? I have been fighting this for 3 years and my primary care doctor admittedly is not up to speed on fibromaylgia. Thank you for your help.

Re: Fibro doctors in St. Louis, MO

Hi kathy,
I would just open the yellow pages and start calling all general pract, family docs. I don't know whether your insurance allows you to go directly to a rhuematologist or if you need to be refered. But then start calling all the rhuem. docs and just ask if they see fibro patients. Maybe if they don't then they can refer you to one. I live in Calif so I can only recommend someone here. It can be a very long process but we are living with a very long chronic illness. I wish you well on your hunting, and welcome to our board.

Hi Kathy,

Andrew Baldassare MD is my doctor and he very knowledgeable about fms and cfs. He is involved in testing a new med for fms that is not an antidepressant. He is very thoughtful and caring. He understands. I highly recommend him.

Re: Fibro doctors in St. Louis, MO

kathyd Hi from another show me state firbromight. I have a gp that treats my fibro right now, but I just called the physician referral service of the nearest hospital and ask for docs or rhuematologists who treat fibro and autoimmune diseases. They will ask you which insurance co. you use to be sure to get a doc in your program, then will give you several names. I see Dr. Linda Hunt at St. Lukes west county right now but I'm not sure she is taking new patients who do not have a fibro diagnosis already. I am seeing her for other autoimmune problems. Welcome to the board good luck!

Re: Fibro doctors in St. Louis, MO

Hi ShaysMom, are you from around our fair city. I like my PCP Dr. Kate Lichtenberg, she has several fibro patients. She is a family doctor practice though, and is at DePaul. The rheumy I see is in North County and I live in West County so although I think he is a very smart doc, I am always wanting to find another. He is Dr. Francisco Garriga.

Tamlis, I have heard of Dr. Baldessare, he was recommended to me by a lady from my exercise group. She thought he was great also. She wrote his name down for me and I just didn't get around to seeing him (braveman...my hubby got sick) and I found that little piece of paper not long ago with his name on it. I put it away, cause I thought some day I may want to give his office a call.

Re: Fibro doctors in St. Louis, MO

Hey my home town is in illinois but closer to the st.louis area. My husband is in the military so we moved to washington but not long ago I was in Illinois for 8 months while he was on deployment. I was actually diagnosed in st. louis. I know a REALLY good doctor you should see. Her name is Dr. Moore but you will probably see Dr. Ombrello...she works beneith her. But is still wonderful. They are all so helpful. It takes a bit to get in because the doctors there are remarkable but its worth the wait. They are in st. louis university so you should definately look them up!

Re: Fibro doctors in St. Louis, MO

Jess, thanks for the info. My brother uses St.L U. and is always encouraging me to see some of the docs there. Are these docs GP's or do they specialize in something?

Donna,

I have an appointment with this doctor on July 6th. I was so happy to come across your post since I was worried about whether or not he is knowledgeable about Fibro. Do you also have other muscle problems? I feel that I may need a muscle biopsy and want to know if you think he is the kind of doctor that will go the distance to help?

Thanks for any info,

Kelly
