Guess it is official

I had posted previously that the NP I saw decided I didn't have fibro, but I saw a DO who specializes and has been published on Fibro and he thinks that I do. I saw a picture of all the 18 points and he palpated all of them on me and they all were tender on me, even the inside of my knees. He said that fibro is not the same in any two persons and that it can present differently. Like mine is not generalized, it is more from my waist up, excluding my extremeties. I do have some SI issues, one side moves and the other does not, causing some issues there. I read someone asking about TMJ and my dentist feels I have this too. I don't know if the herniation in my neck is a problem or not, but I am begining to think not.
So, I am going to start with acupuncture. I have begun to walk on the treadmill daily and today I did 50 mins so I am ready to try some light aerobics. I am still so tired after, but a part of me thinks I am not quite as sore as I usually am. We'll see. I also have plantar faciitis. So, working on that.
Is there a general age on here? How many of you had surgeries or injuries that you believe led to the fibro? I have had a two level fusion a year and a few months ago, and am doing well, but I know I will have some pain. I am now taking Ultram, Aleve and waiting to see what strong NSAID the dr wants me to try. I asked for Toradol and he said okay, but that it was only for short term use, like in DAYS, so I said never mind, let's try something that is better but stronger than the ultram on the bad days in place of my percocet. I just want to get off the narcs.
So, you might see me here with questions or just popping in. I am "lucky" that my mil has fibro so I have someone close to me who understands. My mom does not-she might some day, but we'll see.
So, I look forward to learning from you all.

Re: Guess it is official

Hi Mel and welcome to the board. I'm 28 as well and have been suffering from FMS I beleive since I was a teenager although it did not kick into full gear until my early 20's. I have had whiplash 3 times (in 4 years) which I think brought me to this point. I think more than anything though my fibro kicked into gear when my closest cousin who was more like a brother to me was killed when he was 18. I was 23 and had already had whiplash 2 times and I think when my body just could not take the emotional pain any longer it started to break down in other ways. I am currently on ultram as needed and remmeron to help me sleep. Some days my pain is bad and others it's pretty normal. Some days I do wish i had something stronger to get me through when the ultram is not enough but my doctor does not beleive in narcotics for fibro patients (I have never found one that does). It helps to have someone that understands, most wil not, so it's good that you have someone to talk to about it at least.

best of luck,
Amanda

Re: Guess it is official

thank you for writing back. It has been tough trying to figure out what is going on with me. It is hard to determine the root of the issue. Is the disc the problem or not? It has been a fight, but regardless of what is going on with the disc, the fibro seems apparent. I have been getting more sedentary too, which is something that worries me. I used to be up for a bit after nine hours of class, now I am tired just after a couple hours of sitting there, I get figitiy and can't wait to get home to crash on the couch and turn my heating pad on. I am in love with that, let me tell ya. I just wish I had a whole body pad! I was on perc per my request before the fibro dx, and I have always wanted to come off of it. My mil is taking vicodin for hers, her doc in CA switched her to that. I don't care what I am on as long as I can function like a 28 year old and not an 80 y/o!
I am sorry to hear about your cousin. That is horrible. For me, I think it has been a load of stress. After my back surgery we moved into a condo and the Monday after we moved in my husband was fired. We were devestated. We had just closed on it the friday before. We were in Las Vegas at the time, I was on disability and he of course was making a decent living. We cut our losses, put the condo up for sale and moved home to MO and moved in with my mom. Us, our chihuahua and two cats. Half our stuff is still boxed up and it has been a year next month. It has been rough. I got my old job back the day we flew in but hubby went six months unemployed. Then, as soon as he got the job, I went into school full time. My grandparents are paying for school and supplementing the income I am not making. Sure that is awesome, but I am 28 and don't want help anymore!! Of course, bc of them, I will be a nurse in five months
Anyway, so much stress and it isn't over yet. WE are hoping to move again this summer after hubby completes management training and that is a whole nother issue. WE moved seven times in less than three years!
Right now I am just focusing on reducing stress and trying to get the pain under control as much as I can. Today I will find a chiro and get into acupuncture. My mil is sending me a nice check to cover copays. I am lucky to have such a supportive family.
I wish the best for you as well and if you ever need to chat, let me know!
