working out=relief????

since I am new to fibro, please bear with me. I want to know if working out should help with fibro pain. My mil can't tolerate any kind of exercise, her fibro is just too bad, but I am just beginning. I know it is different for all people. I am 28, not overweight and my pain is in my feet and upper body, if that helps at all.

yes exercise is a must when suffering with fibromyalgia

but only do it at your speed and limitations. I would recommend water aerobics and walking. Due to the fact that I have exercise intolerance, going to gyms bothers me because getting too hot makes me sick, so water aerobics works great.

I have been walking on my treadmill for the past three weeks and I think it is helping. I go about 2-3mph and usually go at an incline-that way I am working the muscles too. I don't get sore at all from working out either. I really wanted to do the water aerobics but we only have on gym in town with a pool and the membership is too expensive and the activity center costs 50 a month and most of the aerobics are in the day when I am in school. So that isn't going to work and I really wanted to try it!
I am trying to tone up a bit and am praying to get a recumbant bike too, those are great for my low back and hamstrings (post fusion care). Thanks for your input.

I was just diagnosed myself and I have been working out since I found out that I have fibro. At first I was sore but that has slowly gone away. I 've been running and weight lifting and I just ran a 5k this past Sat. So I guess it depends on how bad you have it. I will say though that I am on meds for it so I'm sure that helps plus I'm really big on stretching before I do any excercise. I hope this helps.

According to the JAMA exercise is the best non-medicinal way to combat fibro. I try to exercise as often as possible and regularly when the schedule permits. Low impact aerobics and water exercises are recommended. I like the physical aspect of exercise and I think it makes you feel better but you have to do only what you can do. Pushing too hard will not help. For some people a short walk or just sitting in a chair and stretching and using their arms is enough.

I applaud you for doing something to help yourself feel better, good for you!!!!!
