New here - Fibromyalgia Message Board

I am a regular on the thyroid board, but new here. As I sit with normal thyroid numbers I wonder if I have fibromyalgia (like my Dad does)...does this sound like it:

Stiffness in neck, sore point to touch in back like swollen point and muscles ache...like I have a "cold" in my back...tightness..when I role my neck I can feel a pulling and soreness like muscles soreness...hard to describe...

I have many other symtpoms too, but that could be thyroid related...any thoughts? thanks! Pixiek

EDIT* YEEESH...had to edit as I read the symptom list...many of the same appear on the thyroid list....I am on both lists it appears. Since my thyroid numbers are all ok, I am now wondering if it is frib. I am suffering...but I do not have the pain all the time...but some of the other stuff ...like brain fog, fatigue, aches that come and go ...oh yes..crying....I do.....add in perimeno and I am a mess

Hiya pixiek,

Yep, sure sounds like fibroey type symptoms to me. Mind you I am only an 18 monther of this, but the things you describe certainly fit with me. I too have other medical problems, so to distinguish one from the other is difficult, but in time you do learn to do this.

The obvious thing for you to do is to see your doctor, and tell him/her of your symptoms. If you go in and say you think you have fibro then they will immediately think you have been reading up on it, and not presenting with actual symptoms to him. Let him/her tell you what they thinks given your list of problems, and if you are lucky he will give you a spot on diagnosis. No one here can in all fairness diagnose for you, but we can offer our support and understanding. Take care.

I've noticed a lot of people from the thyroid board here and on the CFS board. I have had fibro since 1997 - doc found all 18 trigger points. Some of the "maps of the body" showing trigger points are different from others. The doc found some I didn't even know I had. SIL has it too. The reason I suspected it.

Once I got the stress factors in control, the fibro usually only bothers me when I do way too much physically, but just sitting around makes it bad too. Hard to find that inbetween. Right now I have stress and being hypo is not helping it at all. Massage - not deep massage though - has helped me tremendously. Hubby comes through every time!!
Most people don't have pain ALL the time with fibro. It's gotton so now when it is milder I don't pay much attention to it. Just used to it
Good luck getting this is control along with the thyroid. When there is more than one thing wrong with your body it makes it so much more difficult.

Hi pixiek, I have read your posts on the thyroid board. I am a big advocate of people with fibro making sure their thyroid is in the right shape. I too am hypothyroid and I also have fibro. I will say I can tell the difference between the two but it is so very important for your thyroid to be in shape to get fibro under control. Kind of like which came first....you know the old question.

I do have the neck problems you describe and the upper back problems. As golden suggested see the doc. Maybe a rhuematologist that specializes in fibro. Good Luck, keep us posted as to how you are doing.
