throat and mouth problems - Fibromyalgia Message Board

has anyone else suffered from throat and mouth pain? I have had a 'bumpy' patch on the roof of my mouth for a while which seems to get worse then betterish for no reason. it feels like a burning pain and goes to the back of my throat too! its not like a sore throat as there is nothing to see but it just feels odd. I have got a hiatus hernia and gerd and had an endoscopy in November. What do you fibro experts think? I also have a bad flair of tmj at the moment (in flair since last October). Please help as I am desperate!!

Hello Jane, welcome to the fibro board, you'll be surprised at all
the effects of fibromyalgia. Off and on for about 6 months I've had
a painful place in the roof of my mouth. I went to my dentist thinking
it may be an abcessed tooth. xrays showed no problem. The pain let
up for several months and then came back. I went back, convinced it
was a tooth problem...more xrays showing nothing. The dentist thinks
it is an irritated nerve ending. (it does feel like a bumpy spot.) Several
years ago I had a problem and even lost a good tooth because the pain
wouldn't go away even after the tooth was pulled. I then went to a
neurologist who diagnosed the nerve ending problem. This may not help
you at all, but I posted several months ago when my mouth was really
bothering me and no one replied ,so I thought I was the only one with
the problem. The trigiminal nerves reach out into the roof of the mouth
and maybe it's all connected. I hope you find answers.

Hi,thanks for replying - I too was beginning to think that I was the only one with this problem. I have been to the dentist and the oral surgeon, both said it was nothing to worry about, but the pain shoots up behind my sinus' and makes my eyes water all the time (looks like I'm crying and makes me feel like it)!
Its snowing here today so of course its very cold - all my pains seem worse when its cold, I've got a new nasal spray from the doc and tablets for facial pain, but nothing seems to work, what do you use?

Hi Jane, you are so right about nothing helping the pain. Several years
ago the neurologist gave me Neutrotin to calm the nerve down. I took
one pill and it knocked me for a loop. I just toughed it out that time and
it finally went away after several months. This time it's the other side.
About 12 years ago I had a short bout with cluster headaches on the right
side. It caused bad pain around my right eye, down my cheek bone and
even my teeth on that side hurt. It also caused my eye to water. I believe
this is all connected someway, maybe neuritis in that section of nerves.
You ask what I take; I take Norco 5 mg. twice daily for fibromyalgia and
Ambien CR for sleep. It controls the fibro pain pretty well, but dosen't touch
this pain in the roof of my mouth. I really don't know what kind of doctor
to see. If a person has fibromyalgia, the doctor blames every pain on that
and prescribes medication which I probably can't take anyway. I've only
seen one doctor since I was diagnosed with fibro and I really don't want
to see another one unless I have too. I'm sorry this is so long and drawn out.
Jane, tell us more about yourself. We have some great folks on this board and
sooner or later we get answers or at least heart felt concern.

I have fibro and RA and have had mouth problems. Among other symtoms I get sores in mouth that are awful and make my teeth hurt (even tho they aren't mine), my face hurts and my throat gets red and neck hurts. I use Magic Mouth Wash for the sores and take pain pills. This disease can give really wierd symptoms. After 30 yrs. believe me I have seen them but still hear new ones. I had indentations in my body and lost muscle. Had all sorts of tests and saw specialists. Have in years since heard at like support groups others tell similar symptoms. It really helps to have a good rheumy. I started out with a fantastic one and saw him for about 20 yrs. The one I see is good but not like he was. Hang in there.
