Have you seen the news about Ambien? - Fibromyalgia Message Board

Has anyone seen the national news and or your local news about people driving while asleep after taking ambien? We have had some stories here on the board about the strange things some people do under the influence of ambien but the news report was a very scary thing to think about.

The news said that people either get pulled over and accused of drunk driving or just wake up after they had an accident.

I take ambien with no problems, but all this does make you wonder!

The report that I read did state that most of those people who had problems did take more than the recommended dose.

The ones I heard about either, like you said,took more than their dose was or took the right dose but at the wrong time. They talked about someone who took it on their way home so it'd go ahead and kick in by the time they got home.
I took it for awhile and if for some reason I stayed up later than planned, I had trouble walking, kinda like I'd been drinking too much.
Maybe after all this news about it, people will be more careful about taking it.

Hello Everyone, I take Ambien CR every night. I take it about 8 o'clock
and I sleep a good restful 8 to 9 hours. I wake up refreshed with no hang-
over. It's the very best thing that's been done for fibromyalgia in my case.
I can understand it being misused by taking more than one should or mixing
it with alcohol or meds given for anxiety. Before the doctor put me on Ambien,
I only slept a few hours at night and it was not very restful. Older people have a
difficult time getting good sleep and I hope this news on the TV dosen't cause
doctors to be afraid to prescribe Ambien. Sleep well my fibro friends!

April and Ct that was interesting, I didn't hear that about taking it at the wrong time or more than they should. How 'dumb' is that! I mean it is a sleeping pill I would think anyone should have enough since to not take it and then knowingly drive!

Ambien does work very fast for me. When I first started taking it our little local pharmacist said be sure to go right to bed when you take it. He said he had a lady break her leg on ambien. He said she took it early thinking she could 'fiddle' around the house for a while then climb her stairs to bed. You guessed it down the steps she went and a broken leg. I took his word for it and I take it and get in bed immediately. I have answered the phone to talk to my children but stopped that, I was too much of a comedy show. No more laughs on Mom!

Bilij I agree ambien has been the best thing for me, for my fibro. Sleep is something I have a great deal of problems with and of course the quality or lack of sleep depends on how bad I hurt. Without it I would be a mess.
