First time post here, just a question?

My sister was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, and she also has diabetes.

I have thyroid problems, had hypothyroidism then Graves disease.

Just wondered if anyone here has a thyroid disorder as well as fibromyalgia.Have heard that fibromyalgia and hypothyroidism can be related.

Thank you

Re: First time post here, just a question?

Hi Lady50, Read a lot of your posts on the thyroid board. Yes, being hypothyroid and fibro can go hand in hand. There is a good book by Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum called 'Fatigue to Fantastic' where he addresses some of the issues with thyroid and FMS and CFS. Also Mary Shoman in one of her books about thyroid disease refers to fibromyalgia. I am sorry but can't remember the name of the Shoman book but it was a small reference in the book.

I guess the best testimonial would be the number of people on this board who have thyroid problems. I am hypothyroid (Hashi's) and until I could get my thyroid working for me instead of against me I could not get a handle on my fibro. I am sure you will hear from more knowledgeable people than me on this issue.

Re: First time post here, just a question?

Thanks so much, I bet my sister is hypothyroid. They most likely just ran the TSH test, and the Ft4 and Ft3 need to be tested.

Maybe she will listen to me and maybe not. Doesn't hurt to try though.

Re: First time post here, just a question?

Same here, thyroid disease (Graves) radiated into hypothyroidism. Now fibro among other things.

Hello, my name is Tina and I am a diabetic also. I was just diagnosed with fibromylgia and my doctor says when you have one autoimmune disorder the likelyhood of having another one is very high. Right now I am in a lot of pain, my whole body feels like someone has beaten me. I hope you are well. Take care. Tina

Re: First time post here, just a question?

Welcome tarnold glad you found us.

Lady50 my FT3 is still not in the 70% range but I just can't seem to get it any higher and right now endo will not do cytomel. As long as I can manage at this busy time in my life I can live with it but maybe your sister really needs a close look at those tests also.
