Just prescribed lunesta, I am afraid to take it, any suggestions?

Hey, I am newly diagnosed with fibromyalgia and my doc prescribed me lunesta. IS this one of the drugs that makes you do crazy things while sleeping? I am scared to take it but I get NO sleep at all. So maybe that is worse than doing silly things. Thanks for any info you can give me. Tina

Re: Just prescribed lunesta, I am afraid to take it, any suggestions?

Hello Tarnold and welcome to the fibro board. I take AmbienCR
which works really well with me...no crazy stuff yet. My doctor
gave me samples of Lunesta and it worked just as well as the
Ambien; the only problem, it left a bitter taste in my mouth and
made my morning coffee taste awful. I'm 75 years old and it's
such a blessing to get a good nights sleep and no ill effects of
any kind. You won't know until you try it. Here's wishing you the
best of luck.

No I have not taken it yet. I am just so scared with all the stories in the news about those types of drugs. Tina

Re: Just prescribed lunesta, I am afraid to take it, any suggestions?

I take lunesta for insomnia, at first I did not want to take it scared I would be droggy in the am. If I take it I dont feel really sleepy, I can take a few hours b4 I go to sleep and it helps me sleep great. I have had some vivid dreams but not totally crazy ones. I think its because you get into such a good sleep, but that does not happen each time I take it.

good luck!

Re: Just prescribed lunesta, I am afraid to take it, any suggestions?

I take Lunesta with great results. I take 3mg nightly, right before I go to bed. It helps me sleep more restfully, get in to the deeper stages of sleep. I wake up feeling refreshed, not drugged.

Initially I had the bitter taste in my mouth that is common with Lunesta. My doctor said that it would go away with time if I stayed on the medication. She was right. The Lunesta no longer affects my taste.

Also, I haven't done anything "crazy" on Lunesta--no weird stories like Ambien. If you do decide to take Lunesta, it is important, with any sleep medicine, to take it immediately before going to bed. That way, when it starts working, you are safely tucked in your covers, and can drift off to sleep.

For me Ambien works better the majority of the time however if I still can't sleep & get up - whatever I do is very "foggy" so I try to make sure I'm not sending off emails or eating.

I did try Lunesta for a few days & it worked about the same as Ambien. However; I was one of those few that got the crazy/scary dreams. They bothered me so much that taking it is not an option for me.

Keep in mind that these things work differently on different people. Especially combined with the perscriptions you may already be on. Keep working with your doctor. It's really important that you get "good" sleep. Without it - it throughs everything off balance.

Keep us posted on how you do - good luck!

Lunesta made me have HORRIBLE nightmares and it made me break out in a cold sweat while I slept. It definitely didn't work for me, but everyone is different.
