Back Surgery-fibo-and Physical Therapy!!

I recently went through a double vertibrae fution with 4 cages, rods and screws!! I have fibromyalgia ALSO--and just started physical therapy yesterday. He only had me do a couple of excerecises to sterngthen my muscles in my back. Then he massaged my incision and then hooked me up to a electrical unit to send impulses through my back. (HE SAID THIS HELPS WITH INFLAMATION IN YOUR BACK.) I could not move this morning when I woke up. Every muscle in my body was painful! I think it is the fibromyalgia flaring up ---and I also know I will hurt to some degree--BUT THIS WAS AWFUL! Just wondering if any of you would have had any experience like this. I think I need to find out if my therapast knows about the my fibro.

Re: Back Surgery-fibo-and Physical Therapy!!

BB,

In future, let all therapists know in advance that you have fibro. Be sure you are forthcoming to the PT about the location, type, and degree of post-therapy pain you are experiencing. I would even call the PT clinic today & discuss with your therapist while things are fresh.

Best wishes.

Re: Back Surgery-fibo-and Physical Therapy!!

Our daughter had back surgery recently. We told the therapist that she had FMS. Unfamiliar with FMS, he was an unbeliever; but followed doctor's orders to give a quick course of excerises to do at home. He became a believer at least that she was sick with something when she had her flare of usual symptoms while he was instructing her. Scared him greatly.

Re: Back Surgery-fibo-and Physical Therapy!!

I have rods, screws, cages, plates, etc, in my neck and lower back.

I would NEVER go to a therapist who even considered touching anything near my hardware!! Even if I didn't have fibro-that is a huge NO-NO!
If they don't know what they're doing, they could cause permanent damage to your daughter's spine, or at least brake some of her hardware.

She needs to find another therapist and fast. Sorry she had to go through that! Good luck!! Misty
