Numbness/tingling non-stop in lower legs/neg EMG

I'm at a loss. I'm in my early sixties, have high anxiety and stress. I've had numbness or tingling, not sure what to call it, which started about 4 or 6 years ago and doesn't let up. The soles of both feet burn occasionally but then the ball of my feet are rather worn out. These are my only symptoms and my doctor has sent me for an EMG/NCV which is negative. I have FMS, scoliosis, low back pain, stomach muscle are/have been very weak due to surgery. Now my doctor wants me to see a neuro specialist. Would some of you folks please help me. Do you know if these are symptoms of MS? I'm widowed with no one to turn to should I get down and this is really scary. I have terrific health anxieties, panic disorder too. Thank you so much and may God bless all of you.

I can certainly relate to your symptoms, as I too suffer from anxiety-panic attacks, and also have the tingling and numbness in my head/face. Sometimes my entire left side feels feels like I'm having a stroke...very weak. I also have FMS, OA, mild scoliosis. stenosis and who knows what. Have you ever had an MRI or MRA of your head I just had both done two weeks ago, and both are normal (of course). I have had horrible symptoms that resemble Lupus or MS. Found out at the ER two weeks ago that my potassium was/is low. Are you taking any BP medication or diuretic? If so, they could be lowering your potassium. Since I have been activly eating more foods high in potassium my pain and fatigue has improved. Most of my bad spells happen in the middle of the night which scares the life out of me, because I feel like I'm having a stroke or heart attack. I am very sensitive to prescription medication which only adds to my symptoms, anxiety and panic attacks....taking a diuretic landed me in the ER after only two days. The symptoms were so scary. You need to see a specialist. Hope your doctor is more understanding than mine is. I really need to find a new doctor.
Take care of yourself, Des

Re: Numbness/tingling non-stop in lower legs/neg EMG

Hi Des, Thank you so much for taking the time to write. Yours is the only reponse I've gotten from this group and none from the neuro group. I truly appreciate it. I have a good doctor. She in fact sends me to specialist for any and everything. I love her. I've been to a neurologist for the EMG/NCV test and he says "no neuropathy." (This is the only testing I've had.) So now my doctor is sending me to a neurospecialist on Sept 13. I'm going to a chiro on the 7th. I'm at a loss for my symptoms. The front of my (bilateral) lower legs are not really numb but more like tingling and it goes from my (creaky) knees to the top of my feet. Sometimes there is pain in the siatic nerve. That's the only symptoms and I'm totally at a loss because I can't find anything on the net that makes sense to me. I have good circulation in my legs. The tingling is non-stop. It came on so gradually I don't really know how long it's been there but probably a few years. Don't you just hate anxiety!!! and panic!!! I will add you to my prayers Des and I do hope you will write again. God-bless!

PS Des. Yes, I'm on BP meds and meds to keep my cholesterol in normal range. I also take fluid pill and atenolol in the AM to slow my fast pulse.

Re: Numbness/tingling non-stop in lower legs/neg EMG

I have found out over the past couple of years, give or take a few months, somethings about the tingling thing. I get migraines and so take med. to prevent them. The 1st med. I took to prevent worked good for a year or 2, can't remember for sure but I think it was almost 2, then I started getting tingling, painful tingling, in my hands & feet, first just on palms and soles, then later it went around to the tops of both, eventually reaching p to my ankles & wrists. The longer this went on the longer the tingling would last and be more painful each time. It finally started on top of my head, that was way worse. I'd wake myself up scratching, my head feeling like it was on fire. I weaned off of the 1st migraine prevention med and started a different 1 a couple months later. No problems until last month, the tingling is trying to start back, thankfully it seems as if it's doing it alot slower this time.
Also, about a month ago, my left arm was feeling weak & heavy some tingling, even holding the ph. was too heavy to hold. I went to the er cause my family hystery has strokes & heart attacks, they did several tests and said heart was fine bu that I had thoracic outlet syndrome. The way I understand it, something is causing 1 or moreveins along the collarbone area to not get as much blood flow sometimes as they should, I'm supposed to have an EMG sometime.
Sorry this is so long, but I'm tired & takes me longer to get out just what want to say without just going on & on. Hope something I've said my help a little.
April

Re: Numbness/tingling non-stop in lower legs/neg EMG

Hi April,

Thank you for replying. Your symptoms sound painful to say the least. I hope the EMG will help in a diagnosis that will result in finding meds to help you. I've been searching for a condition with my symptoms. I've found that the non-stop tingling from knees down and in hands, buring feet could be small fiber neuropathy. From what I've been able to tell, the EMG/NCV wouldn't be able to diagnose this. I'm very glad the results were neg but I wish I knew what is causing this. I'm going to see a neuro-specialist on Sept 13th. Has your EMG been scheduled yet? I've noticed this past year my hair falling out a lot and my nails will break off as soon as it leaves the nail bed. Now for some reason unknown to me!, my nails have suddenly started growing and are strong. I think there is something wrong with my immune system. Anyway, I hope to hear from you again. Blessings, mary

Re: Numbness/tingling non-stop in lower legs/neg EMG

April, thank you for posting. Yes, you have helped me. I really appreciate it. I actually replyed to your post yesterday but apparently it did not go through. I'm sorry you are suffering. I will pray for you. I do love my doctor. She is wonderful and immediately sends me to a specialist for any problem I mention to her. I've had the EMG/NCV and it was neg except for carpal tunnel in both wrist. I'm scheduled for a neurospecialist on Sept 13th. I had numbness in the front of my legs from knee down to the top of my feet. THis is 24/7. My feet burn like mad some days. Then it passes. I sometimes think it's all in my mind but it's not. I think were it all in my mind, the numbness would go away sometimes. Anyway, please let me know when you are going for your EMG. Blessings
