any advice welcome - Fibromyalgia Message Board

Hi,
I've posted a few times on the thyroid board as I was diagnosed hypothyroid in January and have found myself over here as I am a little unsure as what is going on with me.
I am suffering with terrible pain in the calves of both legs which has just started last week and it feels as though they are very tight as though I have done exercise. I also have lower right hand side back pain and both these combined are making me very stiff and walking is very painful at the moment. The other strange pain is a little difficult to describe but basically it is at the top of my nose and radiates out almost making me feel as if my nose is about to burst! It is a heavy pressure type feeling.
I am constantly tired and cannot get through the day without sleeping which doesn't make me feel any better or increase my energy levels, my endocrinoligist assures me that as he has got me on a level of meds he believes to be right for me, that my fatigue is not due to thyroid issues.
So, after all that waffle, my question is does this sound like it could be fibromyalgia and should I see my GP soon, as I have had this for a week and my first thought was it could be a virus so have given it time to improve but if anything it is worse.

Hi Jane....hmmmm...wondering did your doc test your t-3 and t-4?? Not that I feel that would have anything to do with your legs or your nose....if you have only been doing this for a week.....I would start a daily log and write everything down...so if it does continue then you have a guide to go by when you do go to a g.p...

Do you have fevers? Or anything else going on? Do you think you could have lyme? How did you symptoms begin?
I know how frustrating it can be trying to find answers.....

hello, unfortunately it may take sometime to get dx with fibro after everything else is ruled out. it took me i think 4yrs and a couple of docs to get dx.
then when you are finally dx it may take sometime to see what might actually ease you pain.

Thanks for your replies and good advice. I will keep a daily diary to see how things go. With regards to other symptoms, I have many things going on which a lot of are caused by being hypothyroid so it's hard to know what is causing what!!

Hello,
I have had a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia for over 15 yrs...you do not get this suddenly..it sneaks up on you..I had it for over 5 yrs before they finally found a real diagnosis..if you have not read up on it..do so on the support site.. I also have HYPO thyroidism..and there are alot of the same symptoms..but much easier to remedy than the fibromyalgia.. Ask you MD for the TSH lab results..they show both your reading and the "normals" and you need to keep track of them yourself..after awhile..you get to know what level..you feel the best..even if he says this is normal range..if you are higher or lower in the normal range can make a difference in how you feel ....read up on it and get informed..you need to understand it so you can ask appropriate questions to MD and get him to work with you to get you feeling better..but you are responsible for your own body...it is only you..he has 40 patients a day to see..and cannot feel what you are feeling..try to put what you are feeling on paper and do not be afraid to bring a legal pad with you to appointments and ask questions and do not leave till you get your answers..you are his boss..you are paying his wages..you have the right to know and understand..but you need to be informed..so read up on it and ask questions..WWW. mayoclinic.com and WebMD.com are great resources for health issues..
Keep active..and eat right..those help the most with both diseases..
