How long was your longest flare up?
I have not been formally diagnosed with FM but am 110% sure that is what I have along with MPS.
My symptoms started about 7 years ago, though I didn't know it then, but in retrospect I do now.
I started with sleep disturbances right after my last child was born, and no I don't mean getting up with the baby either. I get up (by up I mean totally awake and out of bed probably 2-3 times a night) not to mention the numerous times I change sleeping positions and places (from bed, to floor to couch, ect)
In retrospect I can name off dozens of times I was having a FM flare up and didn't know it. To name a few; a couple years ago I woke up with excrutiating pain in my abdomen. I went to the doc who was certain I was having a gall bladder attack. He did an US with negative results so he did a nuclear scan also negative. He did tests on my liver and everything else that was in that area and couldn't find anything I mean NOTHING wrong with me. He threw his hands up and gave me injections for the pain for the next few days until it was gone.
Another time around Christmas time 2 years ago I had a dull ache on the back of my head that was to the right somewhat. It progressively felt more sore so I went to the Chiro thinking my neck was out. He kept telling me it was stress (BLAH HIM!!!) anyway it went away after three weeks of agony.
I have been known to wake up with pain in any given muscle group for no reason. I used to tell my DH that it felt as if I really over did it with that muscle but I hadn't.
These are just a minor short list I could go on and on. I read the list you all have posted in the other thread and I can tell you I could check off more than 50% of those.
I just recently have done some intense research on FM as the back of my head has been KILLLING me for about 6 weeks now. It gets so back I just want to smack my head on the wall, table, anything (I know good plan since my head already hurts. LOL) The pain travels up the back of my head and then sits right on the back top part of my head and drives me up a wall. Also I get a lot of ear involvement on that side, feel like I have an ear infection. So anyway, in my new found intensity on finding out more I didscovered the tender point charts. I was dumbfounded by what I found out. I knew those spots were sore on me when touched but I thought they were on everybody. So I have been going around and pushing on those spots on everyone I know (well the ones that wouldn't smack me if I suddenly pushed on their chest LOL) and was astonished that most people don't hurt there. Who'd a thunk it!
ANyway as my topic suggests I was wondering how long your longest flare up had lasted. As I said it is at the very base of my skull on the right side on my head. It starts there and travels upward. For the most part all pain stays on that side. This has been going on since the last week in August so around 6-7 weeks.
I can manage it with 800 mg IB every six hours but I can still tell it's there. If I don't take the meds I suffer but I am going to keel over with an IB overdose here pretty soon.
I know alot of people say IB doesn't work for FM because it is not imflammatory but it works for me.
SO how long has your longest flare up lasted and have you ever had this pain at the base of your head?
Thanks so much.
