Smile It's worth getting your Vit D levels checked....

Well, the new Rhuemy I went to see last week called today and it turns out that my Vitamin D is really low. I have been doing some reading on this and it all makes sense or at least explains many of my symptoms. Low Vitamin D is associated with muscle pain, muscle weakness, bone pain as well as autoimmune disease, certain types of cancer, and even some nervous system problems such as anxiety and depression. She is starting me on a high dose supplement once a week until my levels increase. This might explain why I've only gotten worse over the past couple of years. The more I feel bad the more I am inside and therefore not getting the Vitamin D I need. I mean I am rarely outside even in the summertime and am definitely not getting enough Vitamin D from the foods I eat. I don't drink milk at all and never have.

Anyhow, I will be excited to see what kind of difference this makes in how I feel. It may not be the "cure" for me but I'll take any relief I can get. I know this may not be the answer for everyone but it's definitely worth getting your levels checked since it is something that can be easily corrected.

Re: It's worth getting your Vit D levels checked....

Vit. D is being tested for tons of treatments. Including heart, thyroid, bones, muscle, and as an anti biotic.............. My Dr told me 2 weeks ago that the FDA is almost ready to up the requirements from 200IU's daily to 2000IU's daily. There have been a lot of articles on Vit. D lately also. This is one Vit. that everyone needs to take. I also have a low level when I was tested a last year. I know take 2000IU's daily. with calcium.....

Re: It's worth getting your Vit D levels checked....

My rhuemy tested me also and the blood test came back low in VitD. He told me low VitD has been associated with autoimmune disorders. I am now taking 1200mg a day instead of 400mg. I can't remember how long I have been taking it probably because I have not always been consistant with my vitamin regimen lately. Anyway can't say it has helped that much but can't say it hasn't. Laura good luck I am sure it will help, keep us posted on how you are doing.

You want to be taking the Vitamin D 3....that is what my rheumy put me on about 6 weeks ago. He wants me taking 2400 internation units a day.
Yes there has been a lot of articles on it lately. So research must be being done.
good luck
