Mouth and Fever sores?

Are mouth and fever sores a normal symptom for FMS/CFS for anyone? Or are they a symptom more prevailant in another auto immune disorder other than Lupus?
Any info would be appreciated. Thanx.
Feel well, Felicia

Re: Mouth and Fever sores?

I suffer from FMS for several years now. I have had a history of fever blisters, but they are often not your typical fever blister. I have one area on my lip that constantly feels sensitive and peels and then it will dry and then start all over. It doesn't get to the swollen, weepy stage like a typical (which I also have at times) fever blister. This began about the time my FMS symptoms escalated some 3-4 years ago. Interesting finding.

Re: Mouth and Fever sores?

Fann, I have had mouth sores my whole life. In my earlier years very painful ones. I have NEVER had a cold sore or fever blister. The mouth sores are always those little white ulcerative things and now they mostly just show up for a few days with no pain and disappear but they are much more frequent. I can't figure it out and my rhuemy doesn't seem to be a bit concerned about them. So to answer your question.....uh....what was the question!?! (I amaze myself sometimes with my lightning quick brain.....LOL!) OK, I got it now, I think the mouth sores are more a symptom of other autoimmune problems (especially lupus) but since FM is such a roll over disease with other autoimmune issue I think we FMers are as likely to get them as anyone.

How's that for doubletalk.....I think! Aren't you glad I decided to answer your thread. I think I will quit while I'm ahead.

Re: Mouth and Fever sores?

Hi I have just been diagnosed with Fibro. for the 2nd time, anyhow this time the flareup has been extremely bad. I have chronic mouth sores, esp. at the corner of my mouth, very dry mouth and throast, and a candidas yeast infection which should be clearing up and isn't. I rinse with a mouth rinse from an oral surgeon. I had a biopsy at my choice of my lip glands and my cheek area to test for Sjorgens and lupus. My own dr. wasn't moving on this so I had to take something into my own hands, It was negative

Re: Mouth and Fever sores?

Hey Gals!
Thanx for the reply. This has been haunting me all my life as well. Very painful mouth sores of all kinds when I was a kid. They hurt so bad, at times I couldn't eat. Fever blisters the same.
Yes Goldy, I have one area on my lip that constantly feels sensitive, no peeling but it doesnt come into a real blister at all. Just tender, bumps that swell slightly and disappear, then it starts all over again. I also do get to the swollen, weepy stage from time to time. But seem to be worst during the peek of my flares, sometime in Jan-March. My flares usually begin in Aug-Sep, and a blister can also pop up at that time as well. My flares last till May-June. Every year and it just got worse as every year passed, ever since I became infected with Fifths Disease 8 yrs ago. But have been bad and major for the last 4 yrs. Even in my good months I get reminders that I am still not well. The mouth sores happen all year round, but also are worse during flares.
All my doctors seem unconcerned as well.
Glo, you are FUNNY
I don't have Lupus?! But I did a search from these boards looking for other adults that had Fifths Disease and there were a few people who after having it, a few years later were diagnosed with Lupus. This scares me, but I don't have many of the Lupus symptoms. But needed to know if any other FMS/CFS sufferers also get these nasties more often than the norm. My sores also come with my IBS and hiccups with IBS as well.
Strange path I follow. I think Ill copy this to disk for my doc!!!!
Thanx Ladies!!! You set my mind at ease.
Feel well, Felicia

Re: Mouth and Fever sores?

I went to a differant internist today, my doc is on vacation. I have had two courses of antibiotics since mid February and I still have what feels like a sinus infection, my throat too looked slightly infected to the doc and my tonsils as well. He didnt want to put me on another antibiotic being that the others didnt seem to help. I showed him the mouth sore and he said mouth sores could be caused by a B12 deficiency.
I showed him the three orders of blood work and he told me to go tomorrow and get them done. They include a test for vitamin deficiencies. The three orders were from my rheumy that he wanted me to have done over the past year. He didnt date them so the doc today said the lab will accept them. I havent been able to get there because I have to have a test done at 8 am. exactly, my cortisol test I think. I dont know what its for, but I run into a problem getting there because my 10 yr. old daughter gets on the bus at 8:25???? My neighbor today volunteeres to give her breakfast and put her on the bus for me, so I can go get my tests done. The doc today also is sending me for an x-ray of my sinuses.

Re: Mouth and Fever sores?

Hi ladies, just an update. My bloodwork showed no vitamin deficiencies, but my herpes1 was high. I also discovered in this blood work that I have an immunoglobin deficiency. Something I was probably born with, which would explain all the illnesses as a child and them some. I also tested positive IGG for Human Parvovirus B19. It could be old infection which I had 8 yrs ago. But is high so I got a positive reading from that. I had a hunch that the Parvo was the proverbial nail in the coffin for my health. Before I even got the blood work, I had made an appointment to see an infectious disease specialist out at Penn, University Hosp. I will probably have to have bone marrow biopsy to see if the Virus has become part of my DNA. This Human Parvovirus is a stealth infection. It copies cells in your body and can still harbor the virus and wreck havoc. Along with the immunodeficiency and the herpes virus mixed with the parvo, from what I have investigated, this all plays against each other and are more than likely the main reason for the way I feel. I will keep you all informed.
Something an old Italian woman said to me one day was that the reason I get mouth sores was because of a, "dirty stomach." She recommended me to take Citric of Magnesium to clean my stomach. This is nasty, salty stuff you have to drink. It gives you diarrhea, but it does help the sour stomach feeling and the mouth sores do subside. Always worth a try.
Still cant find anyone who gets hiccups with IBS?
Feel Well, Felicia

Re: Mouth and Fever sores?

its frustrating- I must find a NEW doc, I mentioned to her that I hear cancker sores are part of fibro (Mind you she "does not/will not use the term fibro, but mayo fascial pain") and she snaps- they dont know what causes canker sores, therefor its not related..she knows nothing about it, yet everything I bring to her from research she dismisses...she wants to claim its all just a sleep problem that will go away....BLAH BLAH BLAH....still looking for doc in mill creek/lynnwood

Re: Mouth and Fever sores?

I get mouth sores all the time and years ago a dr told me that almost everyone school age or older has been exposed to Herpes simplex, which is a virus that causes most mouth sores. I keep some anbesol around for when mine get painful but mine usually blister. When I was a kid they popped frequently when eating and cleared up more quickly than ones that didn't burst. So now I just pop them with my teeth if I can reach them and then rinse my mouth with epsom salt mix and they are gone in about 2 days.

Re: Mouth and Fever sores?

Hi folks, havent checked in in a while. I find I get mouth and fever sores when IBS is acting up. I also get frequent hiccups with it. The greatest relief I get is with Vinces Mouth wash. Alot of Drug stores dont carry it, but you can ask about it. Takes the pain away instantley and progresses the healing.
As far as parvo going away... I know someone asked. Yes, they say it does, but I feel the parvo virus kicked my fibro into high geer.
Any way, came on to check in and bingo, mouth sores comes up and boy have I been in a bad way with the IBS. ironic.
I also was told many years ago by an old Italian woman that the reason we get mouth sores is from a dirty stomach. She recommended Citic of Magnesium. Its a terrable thing to drink, but it cleans you out and it does help my stomach feel better.
Feel well folks, Felicia
