Long Term Disability Insurance wants IME

Well, I figured I'd have to do it, but now I have to go for an Independent Medical Exam. Any suggestions. I feel like this is a doctor who is basically paid to pronounce me a fraud for the Insurance Company. I figure I'll have to sue.

The worst part of it is that I'm almost well enough to return to some moderate work--of course, I'm new to this and I could probably fall back into an inability to work easily enough I suppose.

I've made great gains over the last 4 weeks and hope to be able to work by the time my doctor has said I could return to work.

Any suggestions? Any advice?

I'm pretty darn p!ssed about this development.

Thanks.

Re: Long Term Disability Insurance wants IME

Hi DD,
I am in the process right now of getting all my docs records to SS for my application. I gave them every doctor, every therapist, any and everything I could possibly think of that would prove my illness. Tell the IME doc how much your ability to even clean your home and care for your husband and family is about ready to break up your marriage. GO TO EXTREMES, that's all they understand. I had told the IME doc I had to see to be approved for my state pension/disability exactly that. Mine isn't far from the truth though. He asked me who cleans my house. I said, "I do. But if you saw my house you'd say nobody." I told him, "I don't have dust bunnies, I have dust buffalo."
As far as my husband being ready to leave me? The jury is still out on that one, unfortunately my husband has an attitude about my illness. He thinks I should just work out and get out of this funk, or at least have a salad and a dinner on the table every night. Most times for me, this is a no go. I hate the idea that I am only 1/10 the person I used to be and my responsibility of cooking and caring for my family has left them fending for themselves. But this is the kind of stuff you need to tell the IME doc. A report from a psychiatrist claiming you have depression is another good bit to add, if you have one.
Good luck, Feel Well, Felicia
