BIGGEST Dilemma ever, is this WRONG???!!! Please help!

I have been seeing my Family doctor for about a year now, when i began seeing him, i had just moved, as well as just had a baby, was having a lot of problems with my fibro and herniated discs. I was seeing a previous doc, who is too far away to see, for five years before that. Mainly i was on every pain med known to man, and the only thing that worked is duragesic, or oxycontin for my bad spells, which is about 90% of the time. I began with this doc taking suboxone for pain since I didn't want to rely on a strict narcotic. But after a few months I couldn't handle it anymore, and went back on the oxycontin, he then changed me to duragesic (generic of course), and then back to oxycontin, however my insurance would only allow 60 a month, and required me to take 90 a month, so that got costly. I called him last week to advise him i could only fill partial of my script and couldn't afford the rest, and he advised me during my visit, that he is giving me a month to find another doctor, that he is just a family doctor not a specialist, and i need to see a specialist, ive been trying to get into a specialist for months, but it takes long. I know that none of the specialist that take my insurance have an opening for at least 3 months. He told me that my condition is too complex for him to handle, and IF or IF I DONT find a doctor , June 15 is the last time he would treat me. He changed my med over to Dilaudid, which isn't helping me at all. But im deathly afraid to call him and tell him that. Is this right what he is doing Ive never done anything wrong, was always honest with him, and don't know how a doctor can have you on narcotics for such a long time, and just cut u off, you can get really sick, and i will not even be able to get out of bed, or care for my baby, i am so scared and don't know what to do...does anyone know anyone in NE PA (pocono area) that is a good doc, and belives in using meds, so that could help me with my search.

Oxycontin users have been victimized by one of the biggest swindles of all time. The top officials of the company (Purdue Pharma) that makes it just admitted that their claims regarding its lack of addictive properties were false. The company will pay a $600 million fine.

Doctors who prescribed it are now realizing that they have created cadres of victimized patients who are jonesing for the next fix. It's almost malpractice to keep them on the stuff, but they become shall we say "difficult" patients when you try to get them off it.

So the doctor's best friend is another doctor. If he can find an excuse to force the patient to treat elsewhere, he has passed the buck successfully.

I would love to tell you I had a real idea what you should do. Now in addition to a fibro specialist and a spinal specialist you need an addiction specialist. I know there are some pretty new treatments for herniations that involve stretching you on a computerized machine. If you haven't had that done, you may want to find out who does it in your area and try it to see if you get some relief. In the TV news story I saw they were using this to get NFL players back on the field from week to week.

I'm thinking that wheneverr a big company lies and people get hurt, lawsuits follow. You may want to find an attorney in your area who specializes in bad drug cases (Vioxx, etc.). It may seem like a lot of hassle, but it could give you the money you need to get first class treatment, and perhaps the attorney will also have an in for you with first-class doctors who specialize in your problems.

Kayden, call your docs office and ask them to recommend a specialist for you to see. Then when you call the specialist tell them doctor 'so and so' wants you to see them. Usually when you tell them another doc wants you to see them they make an appt. sooner, will even give you someones cancelation. Or ask the doc who says he can't treat you to have his office call the new docs office and ask them to get you in right away.

When you call the doc you are seeing now (you will probably have to talk to his nurse) be so sweet honey drips from your mouth. Tell them you know what an inconvenience this is and they are so busy but you appreciate what they have done for you and how good the doc has been....etc. etc. you get the idea. Then be sure and tell them you will be running out of meds and could they refill your prescription until you can see the new doc. They will either help you get an appt. sooner or have to refill your meds. If they won't do either ask them (very sweetly) what they suggest you do when your meds run out......then wait for a reply!

get tough little sister. call that doc. he is frustrated too. helpless so to speak. does not mean it is okay to leave you out there hanging. be sweet like glojer said, but keep that firm tone in your voice.
a couple of my meds were not covered by my insurance. my doc filled out a form for them and now they are covered. most insurance companies have loop holes and forms for drugs "not covered".
i am sorry you are having such a rough time of it. i went thru 17 doctors to find my dear laura and the other 7 doctors who assist me in my journey to health. i found sweets to be a good way to grease the wheels of helpfulness. i take baked goodies the first time i see a doc. they don't forget me that way.
like glojer i always take time to thank the staff for helping me.
please keep us informed on how you are doing.
by the way, we have never spoken yet so welcome to the boards. it is a good place full of caring, informed people.
blessings and peace,
bluelakelady
