Anyone from Utah? Hard to find doctors.... - Fibromyalgia Message Board

I've looked on all the lists that were suggested and just can't find any in my area that specialize in FMS, or even treat it! I've been told to just make an appointment with a rhuematoligist and see what happens, but I'm worried he'll just look at me as a hypocondriach or something. THAT is definitely NOT the case. By husband begged me to go to the doctor for quite a while before I even made an appointment with my Primary Care Physician. But when my mom started having symptoms of FMS, even her own kids(my brothers and sister)thought she was overdoing it. My oldest brother still doesn't believe it...even thought he's seen the struggle my mom goes through. It's like everyone wants to see the scientific evidence of what it is, how it is caused, and what can cure it before they'll even believe it's a real problem. sorry fo rrambling, I do it alot. I'm just don't like being treated like an idiot, I think I should have as much respect from a doctor as someone with any other disease would get!

Hi, Sorry it's so hard I know it took us years, I would call all the Infectious disease and rhumo. docs. in your area and ask do you treat FMS. I would ask if he or she would call and talk to you because you need to know how interested in you they are and how responsive they are. My new one called me and we talked for 30-45min. before I made the apts. When you call if they don't say they treat FMS right away or they have to ask, probably the wrong place. You are allowed to look and interview your doctors. Plus you want one that listens to you. Good hunting and take care, Kim

I am going through the same thing in Southern NJ ... I went the internet route and now I am doing as suggested in the last reply. Just calling each one in the book and asking. Good Luck!
