Need Help with Sons Diagnosis - Fibromyalgia Message Board

Two and a half months ago my son was a healthy energetic teenager starting high school. Now he's in a wheelchair outside the house, crutches inside-this is due to severe joint pain especially in the knees. He can no longer read because of the severe headaches that emerge from the constant background headaches he has. He is always tired, sometimes has tremors, dizziness, some short-term memory problems and irritable bowel. This all began with hives and joint achiness. The hives are gone but the joint problems remain. He had negative results on all tests so far (blood work, ANA, lyme titer). The doctor says its probably a virus and will go away on its own. The more I learn it seems that it takes months sometimes to test positive on any of these tests. My son feels the doctors don't feel anything is wrong we feel something is. Any thoughts - we'd like to hear them. Thanks, Debbie

As I am finding out there are doctors out there who specialize in this sort of thing. Perhaps that would be your best bet for diagnosis.

CJ, my 14 year old daughter was just diagnosed with FM right before Thanksgiving, after every test the dr. could think of. I'd really like to talk to another mother with a child who is facing this incredible syndrome. I went up to the high school today and met with the counselor. Because it qualifies as a disability, they will do all kinds of things for her, including 5 hrs/week of tutoring here at home to help her stay current in all the classes she has to miss on the bad, bad days. I completely understand what you mean with regard to having an energetic, busy, healthy kid suddenly wiped out, and what a frightening thing it is when there seems to be no earthly reason for it. At least having a name for the pain has helped my daughter and I both a little. I hope to "see" you here again soon.
