I was diagnosed in May 1998; but my first symptoms appeared in 1973. I was 25 years old. I am now 52--the mother of 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren. I'm not sure how mine started, I think mine was a case of just something that evolved over time. My life is very stressful--my oldest grandson (6) was born with spina bifida and my son-in-law walked out on them when he was 6 months old. My youngest grandson has Kallman's Syndrome and cannot smell or taste anything, plus he is deaf in one ear. My youngest granddaughter was born 4 to 7 weeks early just 2 weeks ago and only weighed 4 lbs. 5 oz. She is so small, but in good health it seems. My husband was on a heart transplant list until July 2000 when he got a new heart. When my dad died in 1989 it really hit me hard. It took me approximately 5 years to be able to talk about him without breaking down. In June 1999 my husband and I were in an auto accident just 7 houses down from our driveway. A young guy pulled out in front of us to make a lefthand turn and we had no where to go except into his car. I had so many bruises and was so sore afterwards. Not sure if it aggravated my symptoms or not--hard to tell since I was already in PT 3 times a week. Other than that and the fact that I have this dreaded FMS, I am OK.
