In the literature I've read on magnesium, it says that many/most people with FM are short on it. It also says that it's helpful to take it with Calcium and with Malic Acid. I know that Malic Acid comes in apples and citrus (neither of which I eat at the moment) but I couldn't find it in supplement form or in my vitamin book. I suspect I'm looking in the wrong place or for the wrong name. Please help me out? Thanks!! |
The only specific malic acid supp. I've come across is Malic Acid Plus, which is a combination of malic acid, magnesium, boswella, b6, and chromium. It is listed in the book (LONG title!): Malic Acid and Magnesium for Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain Syndrome: Understand Why You Hurt All Over And What You Can Take To Naturally Stop The Pain (WHEW!) by Billie Jay Sahley, Ph.D., C.N.C.
Michael T Murray, N.D. states: malic acid is a Krebs cycle intermediate. recommends magnesium chelated to the entire family of Krebs cycle intermediates.
from me:
magnesium SHOULD be taken with calcium, in ROUGHLY the same amounts (actually a bit higher for calc. but equal is ok). Magnesium Glycinate MAY(I hate stating absolutes!) be the most bio-available form, but again, a chelated form may serve you best.
hope this helps
