Question i am a newbie

Hi!
I am new here-My name is Donna and I have FMS,degenerative disc disease, carpal tunnel etc.etc. I have just started reading here adn all of the info looks great!
All of this is relatively new to me-last July I had an anterior cervical fusion of c4-5 and delevoped FMS after the surgery. My employer (verizon)terminated me -they overruled my doctor's decision to keep me out of work. Needless to say I am not happy-no more insurance or income-I am a single mom. Does anybody have any suggestions? I have gotten a lawyer and opened a comp case but meanwhile no $$ not to mention the frustration of all this on top of the pain.
Thanks
Donna

golly girl what bad luck, welcome to the boards they are great they have really helped me alot, i have met alot of really neat and kind and caring people here, they come up with alot of great advice and help.i think your lawyer can help you , maybe he or she can find you some kind of supplemental income or help and being a single mom should get you somewhere i would think, keep us informed of your situation,

Red face

DJF.....

You need to stick with suing Verizon until they not only compensate you, but formally apologize.... If your lawyer don't have people jumping, GET A NEW LAWYER!! You have a case, now you just have to win it!! It takes time though...Just make sure none of that time is being wasted because your not Oj Simpson or Clinton or somebody like that.

As far as finances, because I know it has to really be bad with kids and all, I am assuming there is no husband or whatever, so you'll need all the help you can get. Hit up the State and every charitable organization you can find in your area. Search the net and the phone books.. Go to churches for kids' things and rides to docs etc.. and get baby sitters and such.. Food too. You can also get food from public pantries. Human services has lists of these places. Search the phone book for Catholic churches (most of them run organizations for the needy especially in New York) and call them.. God has many people out there for that very purpose. I am not catholic myself, but I know jillions of them and they are always willing to go out on a limb for needy people, especially Single mothers and even more so that you are so ill. I mean, give God a chance... And if one says they are all out of help for the month or something, GO TO ANOTHER ONE!!

If you don't ask for help, your not gonna get it!! And don't be ashamed or embarrassed either.. It's not your fault.. Your just a good person who's been dealt a rotten hand...
Go get em' girl!! You got kids to fight for!! I am praying for you from this moment on... God will provide you with what you need.. You just have to have faith and to ASK!! There is NO GOOD reason for you to feel so alone and helpless, it is however, up to you whether you succeed or not. I know it's hard and scary and your sick and in pain, but you are stronger than you think..

Stand up for yourself and stop sitting there letting life slap you in the face and kick you while your down. Stand up against the forces that want to see you curl up and wither away in tears. Stand up for yourself and as a MOTHER and kick some butt and be your own hero!!

In the meantime, I am on your side.. let me know what happens and keep in touch, as I am going to check into some legal stuff for you and will get back a soon as I can..

Lisa

Hi Donna! First of all, welcome to the board. I know that you will find lots of good advice here and meet some very nice people.

What a rotten deal! Your boss must be a pretty sorry excuse for a human being. Sounds like you have a good case, though. I'm with Lisa. You get going and find everything the government has to offer someone in your situation. You have worked and paid taxes. Now, it's time to put them to work for you. Don't be ashamed. That's why you pay that money, so help will be there if you need it.

If you don't think you will be able to go back to work, I would go the Social Security office and apply for disability - NOW! Most people are denied the first time, so don't waste any precious time.

I'll be praying for you too, my friend, and doing some research when I have time as to what may be available for you.

It hurts me to hear of situations like yours, but it does make me stop and count my blessings.

Hang in there!

Nell
