Hi, I am 59 years old and this past year I have been experiencing muscle weakness, cold burning sensations in my legs, visual disturbances, back pain. I literally can no longer get up off the floor without assistance. I have to push myself up from whereever I am sitting. And, going up and down stairs is very difficult. I have been reading about fybromyalgia and am wondering if that may be what I have. I have been going to the doctors for a year and have had no luck in a diagnosis. They say my MRI of back and legs does not indicate anything that should affect me regarding my extreme muscle weakness. I am also affected in the arms, difficult to hold a drink without both hands and pick up a skillet, etc. Is anyone experiencing these type of symptoms. I was very active up until all this started about 1 year ago. Exercised six days a week, treadmill and curves. Now I am to a point where I can do very little physical activity. Severe leg cramps when I am on my feet very long. Thank you very much.

Hello there and welcome. Fibro won't show up on any test... The way they diagnose it is to knock out anything else like MS, lupus and other diseases like that. If you go to a web site on Fibro, find one that shows the trigger points. Do some research and check your trigger points. Then you will need to find a doc that first, believes there is actually a thing called fibro, and secondly, will treat it other than saying you just have to live with it.

I can relate to the pain and not being able to get up. Please keep posting and you will have alot more info before to long.

I was initially diagnosed by a neurologist that first ruled out MS and TIA by MRI of my brain. He then ruled out lupus by blood test. If you have active trigger points in your hands, it can cause difficulty grasping and holding things. I agree with the last post, find a doc that treats fibro and myofascial pain; I see a pain management doc for the myofascial pain and a rheumatologist that treats me for fibro. He orders flexeril and now I am starting Ambian to help me sleep. My pain doc orders physical therapy, gives me trigger point injections and orders my percocet and neurontin. i do not experience the weakness you describe. I hope that you find relief soon. Keep posting and let us know how you're doing.
