Tens Unit - Fibromyalgia Message Board

Has anyone used the tens unit? Has it helped? I will be fitted for one Sept 7th. Any advice/experience would be helpful to hear. Thanks.

hi, it helps me during periods of bad flare. It does not eliminate my pain, but does help some. You need to make sure you premoisten the electrodes before applying to skin and before returning them to their plastic storage sheet. Use either a slight bit of water or preferrably aloe gel. It will make your electrodes last longer, and they aren't cheap to replace. Not moistening them will make the stickyness pad deterriorate. Replacement electrodes are far more economical online. Local medical supply stores charge twice the price. When you order online the S&H is flat rate so order at least 3 or 4 sets (or more) I usually order 5 or 6 sets at a time to save on the S&H.

Moistening them before applying makes them more effective as the signal uses the moisture as a conduit into the skin.

Personally, I wouldn't be without mine.

Cool Thanks! Will my insurance cover this? Is just a co-pay or pretty much out-of-pocket? Wow all my med stuff is getting so expensive....my significant other is really starting to get annoyed.

My insurance, HMO Blue Shield, covered it entirely, category is Medical Durable Supplies, or something similar to that. Your doctor has to order it. Depending on the process with your insurance, you may have to pay and then be reimbursed or they may cover it directly, it works differently with each medical facility process. I have had the same insurance for years, and yet the process has been a little different each time w/different medical supply companies they contract with. Good luck!

I have one and it helps when i have active myofascial trigger points in my buttocks and shoulders. I only use it when i have to go on long trips. The chiropractor charged me 3 times and then it was paid for. My insurance bcbs covered all of it.
