Unhappy Is Fibro doing this to you?

I sure hope someone can relate to this or give me some clues as to why this is happening with me.
I am always dropping something and anything. This happens everday and all the time and gets me so frustrated. I lose my grip, i can be making coffee and drop the whole container of coffee on floor. So now i come to the terms of using both hands doing this. But it doesn't stop here, I spill drinks, i drop just about anything but all this has gotten much worse. This is very emabarrrasing and much frustration. I had to go be with my hubby at hospital and i dropped my cane so many times i just wanted to hide and cry. Please, can anyone relate to this with fibro or i'm wondering if i'm losing my senses of touch or am i just plain clumsy?

Re: Is Fibro doing this to you?

I have problems like that as well. To me, it feels like a reverse cramp. Instead of cramping and squeezing the item tighter, my hands kinda spasm open and I drop things. My left is more likely to spasm than my right but I have no idea why. I've learned to compensate, for example, I don't hold a drink and pour it right at the fridge. Instead, I set the cup on the counter and pour my drink. I also save some small soda bottles (12 oz) and I will put cold water or tea or juice in some and I drink from those. At least with them I can put a lid on and if I drop it while it is opened, it won't spill as much.

FWIW, I find that my hands spasm worse when I get tired or really stressed.

Re: Is Fibro doing this to you?

Yes, I find myself dropping more things than I can grip. I was already having some problems with my left hand, left-over from cervical disc surgery, but now I do the same thing with my right. I get cramps, it is like terrible excrutiating spasms of the hand and it looks almost (excuse my term, just no other way to describe it) like a spastic hand and arm. I especially feel so inadequate when I try to do something like zip up a dress or button a blouse, or open those dang pill bottles, it seems my fingers just won't do what they are supposed to do. I guess that is why I dress so sloppy and opt for pj's most of the time. I understand your frustration.

Re: Is Fibro doing this to you?

I noticed a year and a half ago that I was dropping things more than I used to. I wasn't officially diagnosed with fibromyalgia until later, but this sort of clumsiness has increased and is worse when I'm tired or stressed. My right hand is worse than my left.

I don't have a problem dressing myself, and I can do just about anything, but I tend to drop small things like food items etc.

Re: Is Fibro doing this to you?

hiya kids,
me too. since 1993 i have dropped or broken so many things i quit stressing over it. every cane i have has divits in them from landing on whatever.
i learned to laugh at myself when it happens. i have found others will laugh with me instead of staring at me. sure it's an aspect of fibro, what isn't?
remember always that dropping something is not that big a deal. forget what others may think. doubtless they are thinking nothing as they hurry thru their own lives.
give yourself permission to be as you are. be proud and stand tall.
whenever i drop something now i call it exercise. bending over to pick it up or cleaning the mess i made. i refuse to be embarrased by my health. i am what i am, me.
no hiding behappy. your are a wonderful human. never forget that.
peace,
blue
