Being sent to Psych by SSD - Fibromyalgia Message Board

I need help on this one. Yesterday I received a letter from Social Security, which I requested about 5 months ago. They have set up an appt. in about 10 days for a PHD in Psych. I have not requested SSD because of a psych problem. Fibro, and Ostio, Chronic Pain plus alot of spinal ( Bulging Cervical disks) and disks grating on each other in lumbar spine. Alot of pain. Numbness in hands and no grip. Can't hold a syringe or instruments. On alot of meds. So why the Psych? I have really freaked on this one. Any ideas? Thanks, Oma

That is typical procedure for SSDI.
Don't worry about it. Just answer the questions.
Don't let it freak you out.

It is typical to deny you the first round, or more, so be ready to fight it by appeals. Get the appeals in on time.

Right. This is standard procedure. The psych test is an evaluation of not so much of a psychiatric disability although they do that also, but of your mental work capabilies. They will judge your ability to remember things and handle numbers.
