New here, thank god I've found people who understand

I'm 36, been divorced for 5 years, am a single mother of an 8yo son and a 14yo daughter. I have been living on disability for 4 years now. I have fibromyalgia, osteo-artherits, and am bipolar. I am on vicodin, 100mcg fentenol patches, ultram for pain, inderal for swelling, ritalin for fatigue, zyprexa, and zoloft for bipolar. I get so tired of all the meds. they just gave me the ritalin after trying for 2 years to get the insurance co. to pay for provigal and they never would. Of course being a single parent with all these problems is sooo hard on my kids. I wonder a lot of times if they would be better off somewhere else. But I know no-one will ever love them the way I do. I have so much guilt about being a parent. I know my kids deserve better. My dream is take them out of school and travel with them for a year, volunteering all around the world. but I could never afford that. But I think about it everyday. My family tells me Im crazy for even considering it. I hate it when people tell me I'm crazy because I dont think I am at all. I just have big ideas sometimes. (out of the box, the norm) So what. I also am tired of people telling me to just get up and do it. I am sooo tired all the time. Is there any hope? I am grateful I found this site and have found people who truely understand.

Michelle

Re: New here, thank god I've found people who understand

welcome michelle,
take a nice deep breath. even healthy parents feel guilt about their ability to fulfill their childrens wishes. so stop. children have the right to feel safe, loved, fed, sheltered and know mom will set boundaries they won't like now but will be grateful for later. there is nothing that says kids have a right to healthy parents. only loving ones. later it is your love they will remember most, not your fibro or the way it affects you.
guilt is fibros favorite food right after fear. stop feeding it. you are a good parent. it is enough. your kids belong with you, their mom.
the meds. i do understand your desire not to be on them, yet one must to be as healthy as possible. taking good care of your body is good for you and good for your kids.
i like your dream. helping others. teaching your children to care about the rest of the planet and her inhabitants. never let anyone squash your dreams. they matter.
peace,
bluelakelady

Welcome to the board! It's time to let the guilt wash away, and is not worth the effort you put into it! Focus your thoughts on the good things and your heart will follow the road you set before it.

You might have some success with eliminating fatigue by focusing on your diet. Try keeping a diet log each day, and see if you find yourself more tired with certain foods. You may have hypoglycemia, which is a common ailment with FMS patients. Sugar is a culprit, as well as refined carbs, caffeine, etc. I found I had better energy after eating a low-carb diet.

I hope you find a lot of good information here.

Blessings,
Kirstee
