Unhappy Where can i find REAL help?

Hello all!!! i recently discovered that my everlasting pain and migraines and 24 hour fatigue could be FM, in which my Aunt and cousin have been dealing with for years.
About 6-7 months ago i went to my doctor and told her that for years now i have had pain all day and everyday but tried to ignore it(just thought i was not eating write or something)my advil and extra strength tylenol were not working, so sheput me on elavil and Maxolt and oxycodone. Before i began this medication i would constantly leaving early from work and being told nothing was wrong with me.FINALLY i had found something to control my pain, now maybe my doctor can help me! but all she did was perscribe meds(in which she said i should not being taking everyday) and a back xray that should up NOTHING!!! was that good or bad news to me??? i still don't know my back KILLS me and nothing is wrong they say.Last week i went to see my doctor as a drop in but she was not available so i saw someone else.I told the doctor that i am in extreme pain and nobody seems to help me with it and i am not suspose to take my pain killers everyday. This is where i am upset about that doctor i saw that day basically told me that "people like me" overwhelm him with "our" problems and he prefers not to deal with us and perhaps my doctor is not interested in helping me.So i began to tear up from his harsh words nad he told me when i talk to a doctor i should not cry.Is this ok of him to say such things??????Now here i am stuck with no help. Does anyone know where i can go?I feel lost!!!

I know exactly what you are going through ! I am not so far from you, in Ontario as well. Our Dr shortage has made it so difficult to get good care, and the clinic Doc's are often nasty. I was told by one he refused to become my book keeper (documentation) and there was no one that would want to get involved in my situation. I left in tears. There is little that we can do in this province, aside from filing a formal complaint with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. I wish I could help more, but that is all I know of. I wish you well.

Hey AJS,

First of all, the frustration of dealing with constant pain and heartless doctors has likely driven all of us to tears at one point in time or another.. I can't personally apologize for your alternate doctor's harsh words or behavior, but he was out of line.. You were coming to him for medical help, not to be verbally attacked..

My suggestion for you would be to get a referral to a rheumatologist from your regular doctor.. They specialize in pain related disorders and have the knowledge to diagnose your condition or problem more accurately (especially since you've been in constant pain long enough to warrant a referral).. I can't guarantee that all rheumatologists are sensitive, caring people either, but there are some good ones out there - you just have to look for them..

In any event, I can understand your frustration.. Has your regular doctor run any blood tests for other conditions that cause pain like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis? You have to get all of the conditions with similar symptoms ruled out in order to be properly diagnosed with fibromyalgia, but I'm pretty sure that a rheumatologist could handle that too..

Good luck!

Take Care,
Melanie

Yes, keep looking, my GP actually told me that it wasn't like i had cancer, so it wasn't that bad !!!
I urge you to try and get a referral to a rheumatologist somehow, as I spent 18 months on a waiting list to get in. I am about an hour from Toronto, and we only have 6 for the whole city. We hear in ON must get a leap on anything medical, the waiting lists are obscene.
