Tolerance to pain meds - Fibromyalgia Message Board

Did anyone else ever get a tolerance to their pain meds, Ive tried darvocet, ultram, ultracet, soma, and now im on vicodin which works, but its not seeming to work as much, to get the pain relief I used to get I have to double up, has this happened to any of you? Should I call the doc and ask for something stronger, I just don't want to sound like a drug addict, but I work a full time job and have a very important position, and with pain I cannot function normally. Im not sure of what to do , can anyone give me suggestions>

Absolutely call or go see your doctor...there are many pain meds available, and you should be able to be relatively pain free. Be frank with your doctor about how the pain is affecting your ability to do your job.

For many people, not all, Soma with your pain med is more effective taken together for pain.

Building up a tolerance to the medication is very common. It seems like I'm calling my doctor about once every 3-6 months saying "this isn't cutting it anymore, you've got to give me something else"! Along with the pain medication, has your doctor had you try anything like Vioxx or Celebrex? I took Vioxx for a couple of years and it worked well, I just switched to Celebrex a few months ago because the Vioxx wasn't helping anymore. Is your doctor giving you anything else besides the pain meds? Usually along with the pain meds they prescribe an anti-depressant and a muscle relaxant.
