Any apply for Long Term Disability Through Work?

Hello,
I was diagnosed with fibro last January. I was doing well up until the past few weeks. It has been a rough summer due to having foot surgery, and work has become extremely stressful on the verge of being harassed. I have contacted a lawyer and she has stated that right now I don't have a solid case, close though. Anyway my doctors (counsellor and pain management specialist) are both in support of me taking long term leave and applying for long term disability. I am currently in a full day treatment center due to depression that has set in due to the stressors and my limited physical conditions. Has anyone applied for Long Term Disability due to either depression and/or fibro and have any helpful advice as I start this process.?

Re: Any apply for Long Term Disability Through Work?

hello mckesscl, welcome to the fibro board! sorry you have fibro.
to answer your question yes there are folks that have filed for ltd through there company..there is alot of information on this but, you would probly get more responses over on the disibility boards.. just look at the top of the page click on health issues and go down the page to disibility..I am on that board alot

you can also type in ltd on the search bar and see where that takes you to find out more information your looking for.

I dont know the first thing about ltd or workmans comp is it the same thing? or is it something totaly dif and you opt for that and pay extra thru payroll?

anyway, hope you stick around here too if you would like to learn other peoples experiences with fibro your defenantly in the right place.

~take care~

Re: Any apply for Long Term Disability Through Work?

I tried to get disability from UNUM for fibromyalgia. Because i had a history of depression, they said the fms was pre-existing. The rep. was very rude over the phone. UNUM has been sued quite a few times for not paying long term disability for fibromyalgia. I didn't fight it, I filed for ssdi and within 6 months, I was approved. I know the mental health, chronic myofascial pain helped me to get it. At that time, 3 years ago, there wasn't a diagnosis code for fibromyalgia. I don't know if there is one now or not.

I was just researching for disability SS. Did you have a lawyer go thru with you the first time?

What did you use for the illness? fibro... depression... that was it? Were u working at the time?

Any info you can give... I'd love it. I have to do something.

I had 8 years of psychiatric notes, that's why i got it so quickly. I also had chronic myofascial pain and there is a diagnosis code for that but not one for fibromyalgia (the last time i checked). I had anxiety disorder, depression, ADD, which turned out to be fibrofog, cmp, fibromyalgia. I had tons of notes and when i filled out my forms they were like a crazy person filled them out, well i was so foggy, and i just kept writing, i guess i was freaked out too, because of all my symptoms.

I filed about 3 months after i quit working i think.

Still file though after you stop working and if you are denied then you get an attorney to help with the appeal.
