New Here! With a few questions! - Fibromyalgia Message Board

Hi Everyone!
I was diagnosed with Fibro about a year ago. I am 24 and have a lot of questions about it. I have heard that a trama usually flares this. Is this the case? I was just wondering because I was hurt at work and had to have shoulder surgery. I have had alot of problems since then with the trap muscles and my neck but didn't know if that would be trama enough to flare this up? Also, I was on celexa and motrin but stoped taking them due to weight gain. Is there something better out there? Is it normal to just want to cry? Thanks in advance!

I was also injured at work. I was a nursing assitant and was put in a head lock by a resident. I had no surgery but had neck and shoulder pain. It than progressed to upper chest pain, shoulder blade an now widespread body pain.

Sure, it is okay to cry, you have lost your old life and now live in a world of pan and restrictions.

Hi, I have had fibromyalgia for a very long time, have used all the various drugs, and a lot of ibuprofen. I am now going to a Pain Management doctor, she put me on Cymbalta and Lyrica, I take them at bedtime because of the drowsiness from Cymbalta. Believe me, the Lyrica is a miracle pill, it almost takes all the pain away. Ask your doctor about it, it has just been newly approved by the FDA to treat Fibromyalgia.

I will ask about both meds! I was also wondering if dental issues could be part of the fibro? I just had 2 extractions about a week ago and still alot of pain. Thanks again for you help. Hope you both are feeling well! D. Day

My fibromyalgia came on shortly after I started having chronic neck pain which turned out to be herniated discs in my neck that ultimately had to be surgically corrected. So if you ask me, then yes!!! Because of my own curiousity about why I ended up with fibro, I started asking people that I met who either had fibro or had a relative with fibro, how they got it or when it started. I have to say that about 80% of the people I have talked to had some kind of trauma precluding the signs & symptoms of fibro.
I know its not a formal survey of any kind but it is my opionion that they will ultimately find thru research that it has to do with the central nervous system having some kind of "jolt" or "trauma" that it never recovers from. Again, this is my opinion & is in no way been confirmed. I'm just speaking from my experience & the experiences of others that i've talked to.
