Question Trigger Point Injections did not help

I had 10 trigger point injections on Friday. I had several lumps all over my back and my doctor thought at first they were benign lipomas but then he decided they were trigger points. The lumps were tender to the touch and were hard and moveable. As of today the lumps are still there, still tender and my muscles in my back feel even more tense and weak at the same time. Saturday I felt like someone had their hands on the back of my rib area squeezing me...not painful, just a bit uncomfortable. Today my back burns alittle and stings and it feels fatigued. My shoulders feel extremely tense. Has anyone experianced this? Or has anyone not had good results with the trigger point injections?

Re: Trigger Point Injections did not help

What type of doctor did the trigger point injections? Who thought they were lipomas? That sounds suspicious. Lipomas are fatty tumors. Trigger points are the size of a pea and nothing like a fatty tumor. I have never had more than 4 or 5 injections at a time, and they help. I would be very fatigued and sore if i had 10 injections at once. Did you feel a twitch/spasm and referred pain with each injection? You should have. Do you understand what a trigger point is?

Re: Trigger Point Injections did not help

Well thank you, that's what I thought too! The doctor is my family doctor and what he told me, is let's try this and if it does not work then may you should see pain management. I have been having my doubts. Yesterday I talked to their office and they told me to see pain management and then today the office calls me and tells me all my labs were fine and the doctor said my pain is probablly from the osteoarthritis-which when I saw the rheumy he did not see any osteoarthritis in my hands or feet. I am so confused and I am getting very aggravated as no one seems to know what is wrong with me. The knuckle on my left hand seems to have really swollen up, you can even see the swelling in the palm of my hand...he said it looks like a reaction to something! I also wondered how he could know that I have osteo when he never even took an x-ray??? I am leary about switching doctors right now because I am in the middle of trying to get disability but I am open to finding a specialist,,,but I don't know what specialist to see! Thank you for your help and I am open to any advice you may have.

Re: Trigger Point Injections did not help

Hi, you are really on my heart, how frustrating for you.

May I suggest my doctors?

My pain mgmt doc is one of the best in the St. Louis area, Rachel Feinberg MD at Injury Specialists across from Frontenac Plaza. I don't know what i would do with out her and her physical therapy team. I have injections there too. To me, it would be worth the drive. On the brochure, it lists fibromyalgia and chronic myofascial pain as the top 2 diagnoses she treats. I don't know if she would fill out disability forms for you. Her husband is Barry Feinberg MD and he is a great pain mgmt doc too. I know that people in the outlying areas of southern/central illinois drive to see them.

I also see Dr. Andrew Baldasarre MD, a rheumatologist who has worked on new med trials; he is a great doc and did my disability forms for me that i copied out of the book, "Fibromyalgia and Chronic Myofascial Pain, A Survival Manual" by Devin Starlanyl. For when my review comes up in 08. He has marked in my chart "DISABLED" in huge letters. he filled out my forms while I waited in the room with him. Also, he calls me himself the same day I call with questions or if i have a test result. He is a gem. I see him every three months.

Re: Trigger Point Injections did not help

well I will check out that doctor! My biggest problem because I am overweight, is that is all the doctor sees. I am diabetic and I have started the Byetta and I have heard alot of good things about this drug so I have hope! I have always been heavy, but since I have gotten older my activity level has decreased because of all the pain I am in 24/7. I saw a rheumy a couple months ago and when I called about my bloodwork and asked what my dx was the nurse told me I was sero-negative arthritis. So read up on that and when I went back for my follow up he decided no I was just fibromyalgia. This has gone off and on since 2003 and just within the last year it has gotten so much worse. I have been diagnosed with Lupus then rheumatoid, then poly myalgia rheumatica to seronegative, then osteoarthritis and now fibromyalgia. I am very frustrated! I will look them tomorrow. Thank you for your support

Marie
