I am 40 years old and have been diag with fibro for almost 12 years now. They have me on maintenance meds and meds to help me sleep at night so I am not so tired. Recently I have started to have chest pain and shortness of breath with pain in my right and left shoulders. I did have a stress test done and had a 72 hr monitor. Everything came back fine. This is new pain for me and to be honest it is kicking my rear end. I am finding it harder and harder to keep motivated and deal with the pain. Advil only helps so much. Also, I have started to loose the hearing in my right ear. The specialist said it was contributed to the fibro and the only thing they could do was give me a hearing aid. Has anyone else experienced that? Any info would be great. thanks for listening.....Lisa
Lisa, I've never heard of anything like you're talking about. I know it must be scary for you. Please let us know how it turns out. Hopefully someone on here will be able to help you. Mary
I have those sharp little pains in my chest and sometimes feel a shortness of breath. I always feel the sharp little pains are from the fibro, even when I feel a little pressure just simple burping up an air bubble will relieve that. I haven't been exercising and I have put on a few pounds with the holidays and all so I know the shortness of breath comes from that most of the time.
I am a little older than you, just turned 59 so I am sure some of my hearing problems are just age. That said there is such a thing as AIED which is auto immune ear disease and I have several of the symptoms. I have never been tested but I have trouble hearing anything when there is other noise in the area, I am also sensitive to loud noises and I have that thing where someone may say something like 'let the dog out' and I may think they have said ' there is fog out'.....giggle.....you get the idea. These are not severe but sometimes very annoying! I also live in the sinusitis capitol of the world and the fluid and pressure in my ears make things quit difficult sometimes.
So you are not alone, I'm sure many people with or without fibro have this problem. I have never thought of it as anything but auto immune related not specifically fibro. Hummmmm I wonder!
My worst pain is in my shoulders and chest (actually more like collar bone to under arm). Since heart problems run in my family I have to be careful about passing it off as fibro yet nothing heart related as been the cause of the pain so far. As for your hearing; I haven't lost hearing but over the last 5 months or so I have had bouts of vertigo and ringing in my ears with no apparent reason behind them. I never thought of the fibro as a cause.
Hey,
I think you need a new doctor. I would go to a massage therapist and have the muscles released and see if that helps. Also, I have severe hearing loss and with all the docs I have gone to I have never had it linked to fibro.
i am sorry to hear of your pain my wife has fibromyalgia we have been to the emergency room 3 times with symptoms similar to yours heart disease runs in her family she thought she was having a heart attack i was not sure i thought maybe it was the fibro better safe than sorry they ran every test under the sun everything came back negative as always thank god but they had no idea what was wrong i am sorry i cant offer you a solution as we have none just keep close eye on everything when they do tests i have noticed minute details such as her white blood cell count slightly elevated the last time she was in the nurse in the ccu noticed she had pancreatic enzymes in her stomach she suspected pancreatitus when they ran the test again there were none nurses can be your best friend in there i hope i have offered you something that would help may god bless you and heal you
I'm 26. I know heart problems run in my family; my grandfather died from a heart attack, and my aunt has heart scarring that the doctors think is from a heart attack. My mother has pains in her chest from time to time.
I've had heart pain several times over the past two months. I've had it starting a year or so ago, but nothing like these most recent experiences. The pain starts in the center of my chest, and then sometimes travels to my left shoulder. I haven't been to the doctor's yet to mention it, so I don't know what it is. I read somewhere that the heart or some part of the heart can sometimes fill up with fluid, which drains on its own without causing any scarring... and since I feel like a water balloon at times (swollen hands and feet, congestion, etc.) I've convinced myself it must be that (until I can afford a doctor's visit to find out for sure).
I've also had shortness of breath a lot, often with dizziness and not always with pain in my chest. Almost always my heart seems to be beating fast when this happens.
