Bakers Cyst.........

So, following up on my thread below "knots in muscles"...it was hurting so bad I went to the doctor and she said she's pretty sure it's a bakers cyst so I'm having an MRI tomorrow on my knee. I looked it up on line and they symptoms are exactly what I'm experiencing. They don't sound too serious I don't think. Anyone else have one of these?

Thanks,
schao

Re: Bakers Cyst.........

My husband had one in the back part f the knee, Our G/p could feel it and so could he but the orthopedic dr. could not. He had a mri which showed it and he never went back to the ortho, it went away by itself.

Hugs, Linda

Re: Bakers Cyst.........

Yes his was in a lot of pain with it. He got very anry at the ortho, he was very ignorant so he never went back. I would say he had the cyst about 3 months, but it most painful before it went away. I assume it burst by itself. This happened about a year ago and he has had no problem since. My hsband said he felt it burst but what a relief.

A friend of ours also had one that went away on its own. He had surgery scheldled for it and it burst itself. He knew it burst because he immedialy felt the pain go away.

Good Luck, Linda

Re: Bakers Cyst.........

Thanks Linda. One more question---did they give him the option of trying to drain it before having surgery? I was reading about it on the net a bit and from what I have gathered they sometimes drain it first, but then it usually comes back.
(ok, I won't bother you any more )

Re: Bakers Cyst.........

You are no bother, that is what we are here for, to help one another. The Ortho said to cut it out if the MRi showed it but as I said my husband never went back. I read the samething if they dran them they usually come back. My husbands never came back at least not yet. He said some times the pain would just throb.

Hope yours goes away. By the way he was using mosit heat which our g/p said probably helped it to open.

Hugs, Linda

Re: Bakers Cyst.........

Hi:

I've had MRI's before, but that one was very hard to keep my knee and leg still--it hurt soooooo bad. But, it's done now and hopefully they'll find something fixable
My gp told me to use ice and not heat, so I don't know. I usually alternate but I don't want to make it worse.
I'll let you know what happens.
