Has anyone had this test...Adenosine Thallium....comments please - Fibromyalgia Message Board

I have been scheduled to have this test done on Monday. It is suppose to be a stress test to see what my heart looks like. I understand there are two different kinds of Thallium tests. Braveman had one where you don't use the treadmill and he said it was not really pleasant. My doc mentioned two different kinds of Thallium tests but I don't remember the name of the other one, which I assume is the one my hubby had. Anyway this one I am suppose to have takes 2hrs. and I need to wear comfortable shoes and cloths because of the treadmill work. I have paperwork that gives a description of the procedure, but it is not very informative.

Anyway just thought I would get a few comments from anyone who may have had it done. It is so difficult to determine how much of my discomfort is from the fibro and how much may be something else. My doc doesn't like my symptoms so she says we have to take a look since everything sounds fine and the ekg is normal. I am sure it is just the fibro and almost didn't talk to her about it but, I also want to be around for my grandson and hopefully all the other grandchildren to come, sooooo I will take the test.

Any comments on the test?

i am lost. suggestion. why not post the same thread over in the heart part of healthboards. i bet someone over there will know alot, alot.
i am pleased you are doing this. peace of mind, kiddo, peace of mind.
of course it wont be fun. if braveman could do it so can you. wish i had wisdom for you. i will be hanging out with you in sweats on monday, kay?

That's ok by me, sweats are great aren't they. Good suggestion, the heart board is one I have never even checked didn't think about that. Thanks

just want you to know i never, never go out in public in sweats. i will for you tho. easy when it is a journey of the heart, hey pun unintended. doubtless if i was there for real i would dress to the nines in all my colors and jewelery. giggle. in spirit i am in sweats with you.

Hi - I had one done a couple of years ago - doc said it was a good idea since I had left elbow pain. Both he and I knew it was not heart related but I did it anyway.

All that happens is they start an IV (intravenous) with out the tubing, do a scan and then you get on the treadmill. After walking as they increase the speed and slant of the treadmill (Uphill walking)they inject the meds in the IV. All the while they are monitoring your heart. Once done they rescan - guess to see how much of the meds show up? and you are done.

Make sure you wear a decent bra as you have to remove your shirt for the monitoring. It was cold at first without my shirt but warmed up after doing the treadmill.
