Re: Anyone out there with Fibromyalgia having burning sensation?

Thread, thank you so much for your reply, as I said I am not used to using chat rooms so will have to learn as I go along, I am a 68 yr old female, I was diagnosed with fibro in 1990, I also have osteoarthritis, degenerative disc disease, had surgery 3 years ago in the lumbar area, had several bulging disc, one had compressed the nerve bed, Dr. had a hard time getting the nerve loose, when he did he said he rotoruted the disc to make it wider, this surgery failed, thus I have neuropathy on the left side. I also have a large bulging disc in the cervical area and three in the thoracic area but they bulged up instead of out. I had a hysterectomy in 1988 so I never had the hot flashes, they are continuing to do hormone replacement. I have seen my arthritis specialist, heart specialist, endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, he did find a precancerous poloyp that will have to be taken out surgically as it is flat and he could not get it when doing the scope. I take several medications, oxycontin 2 times a day and endocet for break through pain, i usually need 4 day, I have treason to help me sleep at night, of course I take the hormone, and synthroid. I am low on vit d, so take 3000 units of that a day, I have diazepam prn, baby aspirin daily since they found that i have a left side bundle blockage of the heart i just recently found out that my blood pressure is running high so I have lispinoil for that. Sounds like I am a hypocondriack, but I can verify each of the problems that I described. The burning sensation is what the doctors are trying to figure out, so far no luck, we have a great pharmacy here and they are thinking it is nerve problem. They have a problem with my medications as I seem to react to almost everything they give me. I am unable to use the nsaids, i am on the same pain medications and have been for a long time as I have allergies to morphine, and the patches can't be used as I am allergic to tape. The burning sensation began in just patches on my body, now it is all over, nothing seems help, the tiredness I can tolerate, but this heat is getting to me, I should also mention that I have a horrible diet, ice cream, toast, graham crackers , i would skip meals altogether if my spouse didn't holler , thanks for listening perhaps there are others out there that have had this problem too, I would like to hear more about you if you would like to share. Figmo

Re: Anyone out there with Fibromyalgia having burning sensation?

Hi Figmo,

I have a sinking feeling I may know what you're talking about. There is an area on my left foot that has started burning off and on. When it's not burning, it's sore. In fact, it started out just being sore, like I dropped a bowling ball on it. Thank God the burning is just occasional (3-4 times a week for 3-5 mins. at a time). The 'burn' feels like a hot poker being jabbed into my foot!!!! When I explained this to my mom, who has neuropathy due to diabetes, she felt it might be nerve pain.

If your burning feels like this, I cannot even begin to imagine how you cope. How long did it take the one 'patch' to spread all over?

FYI, tonight's supper was a pint of vanilla ice cream!

[Med Stats: Rheumatologist diagnosed fibro a year ago. Neurologist just added cfs to the list. I also have asthma, allergies, insomnia, TMJ, and IBS. Meds include Lyrica, Effexor, Trazadone, Concerta, Veramyst, Asmanex, Proventol, Singulair, Zyrtec-D, Tricor, HRT, Vitamin E, and Omega 3, 6, & 9.]

Re: Anyone out there with Fibromyalgia having burning sensation?

Figmo
greetings from carolinagal65. the tv adds for new meds have given the
the public the idea tha we just have pain. I am 66 and as I have aged it is harder to cope with than I ever imagined and Iam a tough old broad. Did I say that? My fibro has been with me for 22 yrs or so.
The burning has been very very intense. I treat it with benadryl if it is really
bad. Cool baths have helped.
I also get some deep stabbing along with it. This travels like a ping pong ball
mostly in the lower extremeties. The board has helped me be more
kind to myself I am one of those who over achieves.
Hope you enjoy posting here and a big WELCOME

Hi, thank you so much for answering and confirming that I am not the only person out there that is experiencing this, I stated having patches on my back but now it is the whole body, it feels like a very high temperature but nothing will bring it down, I have just began trying some fexeril and it seems to give me a small amount of relief, I think I might try the benedryl. I was diagionised with fibro back in 1990 and it just keeps getting worse, I am 68 and thought I was a tough old broad too but this is really getting to me, unfortunaltely I am beginning to believe this is a heredity condition as my 40 old daughter has it and they are beginning to think my 20 yr old granddaughter has it too. I do see an arthritis specialist but he is always trying the new drugs and my immune system is compromised from the fibro so I don't get a chance to see if they work, before i have a reaction, as long as they stick with the older meds I seem to do fine but have been unable to get any relief from this burning.
You have a great evening, and I hope that soon we will find out what is causing this and at least get some comfort from, there is enough other things to deal with. God Bless

Hi, glad to visit with you, I am 68 and diagnosed with fibro, different things seem to crop up all of the time, this one started off about a year ago, it hit the back and around go the abdominal area, now it is an everyday, I feel like I have a very high temperature and nothing will bring it down, there are times when I have chills and perspire a lot, this too is uncomfortable, I have a difficult time sleeping but during the day, I can fall asleep and time and anywhere, I am trying some fexeril and got some relief, I may try some benadryl that has been suggested, I am just drawing at any straw. I did see my rheumiest but he prescribed medicines that I have already reacted too, the pharmacist here is a really great guy and he is looking up meds that he thinks might help and then he will call the doctor and they can discuss these. God Bless and thanks for sharing with Mei also have cfs, beginning to think that this goes with the fibro, degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis, surgery was done on my lumbar spine and it failed, at least I can be up more, think this is heredity also, 40 yr old daughter has it and my 20 yr old granddaughter also has all the signs, the doctor didn't want to put that in her chart at this time
God Bless and perhaps we can keep in touch, I would like to here what happens with your heat.

Re: Anyone out there with Fibromyalgia having burning sensation?

Yes, burning is one of the many wonderful things Fibromyaliga does to you. I myself have the burning in patches all over my arms and legs. I tried taking Lyrica for a while, but the side effects were too much for me to hande.

Re: Anyone out there with Fibromyalgia having burning sensation?

Yes, I have burning sometimes, mostly on my feet, and sometimes my hands. If I stand on my feet for too long, they start to burn and throb, In the winter, my hands would burn and ache so badly, I could not leave them alone, I would just keep rubbing them.

When I have a fibro flare-up, my arms and legs have this sensation that they are aching, throbbing, burning, restless, and I can not move or it gets worse. It is hard to manage them with a 2 and 4 year old, but they have come to understand and help me. I feel I have been run over by a 18 wheeler. It is horrible and only another person who has fibromyalgia can fully understand what it feels like.

Good luck.

Kassandra
