yes. alcohol, soda and coffee all cause (not only) water retention, they also cause dehydration. best to be moderate in all you do. drink more water. i cut them all out of my life. alcohol also intensifies the pain of fibro.
ps. welcome to the boards.
I know when my husband wakes up and he has had too much to drink the night before, he looks very puffy, and swollen in the face. I do not drink, do have fibro, and do have swelling. I drink coffee in the morning, and rarely drink soda, maybe going out to lunch or if I need some energy in the afternoon, I will drink some coke, but I try to stick to water and cranberry juice.
Do you have fibro, and drink beer? Before I became sick, and my battle with pain, I loved to have a beer with my husband on a hot day when we were at a baseball game, or sitting on our porch. It always tasted great, but 10 minutes later I would have a massive headache, and it was not worth it. I try to avoid things that make me sick, why would I want to drink something that I knew would make me sicker? It was never worth it.
I guess you have to figure out if it is worth it. Good luck.
This is interesting. I don't know about the swelling, but I do know that some people, fibro or not have yeast problems. It can cause bloating. Alot of alcohol has a grain base. I used to have a beer every so often, but it didn't agree with me. I cut out most wheat and anything containing yeast a couple of years ago along with processed sugars. I lost weight and no longer have the IBS that many fibro people have. Come to think of it, it can cause swelling, my husband gets gout occasionally and sometimes drinking a beer will trigger it.
