I woke up a couple days ago with pain down around my left shoulder blade. (Frequent FM area for me.) My husband palpated the area and found 2 distinct "lumps" that were very tender. He massaged and pulled and "worked them out". It was HEAVEN I tell you. I was loose and the pain there was gone.

Then yesterday I woke up to tremendous pain higher in my left shoulder, as well as in the upper portion of the trapezius muscle. I'm wondering if this was caused by my husband's ministrations the day before? It is very difficult yesterday and today to turn my head as the muscle is so swollen it is nothing but a raised hard lump. I tried heat last night and more massage but it is just killing me today.

I don't take medication. Is there anything else you can think of to relieve this?

You' re not alone : My back, my shoulders and my neck are killing me like you oftenly and like you when I (or my husband) try to massage It It's sometimes worse after ! (I think only a good physiotherapist can massage and really relieve you) When I can't support the pain there's something which relax me (It doesn't erase the pain but It makes me feel more comfortable) It's a good warm bath in order to erase the nervous tension I have when I suffer too much which can accentuate the pain.
Like you I don't take medication I have some but as they do nothing I have to find other ideas to relieve.

It's a little thing but I hope It can help you.

You can may be try with a warm shower and let the jet running on your pain points instead of the bath
