Hypothyroidism and Fibro - Fibromyalgia Message Board

Good morning all!

I keep hearing about thyroid issues that people have that complicate fibro, or are in addition to fibro. Could anyone who has hypoT tell me about their symptoms and how they came to be diagnosed?
Routine blood tests do not show a thyroid problem with me. I understand that there are folks who have borderline hypoT or hyperT, and that routine blood tests don't necessarily reflect it. What more specific tests are required to clarify this?

Hi Paddy:
I have hypothyroidism. I was experiencing tiredness, thinning hair, hair turning white (you should see it now - totally silvery white and I'm only 59). I complained to my GP, which was useless. I then took it upon myself to see an endochrinologist, and she diagnosed the hypothyroidism. She actually took the blood test results that I had brought with me, and showed the numbers that my GP missed. There was no other specific blood test that was done for her to diagnose the issue. I was NOT happy with my GP - that was a no-brainer.

It's a wonder - there are probably lots of folks out there with HypoT who don't know it, eh? I would be really mad too.
Can you tell me exactly what the blood tests were called? I know there is a basic Thyroid called serum T3? Then there are more detailed ones? any idea?
Maybe I should go to the thyroid board?

I'm not real sure about the type of blood test. Last time I went in, my current GP looked at the numbers and then ordered another test which tested some other "T" numbers. What she called that test, I cannot remember.
