I am new - Fibromyalgia Message Board

Hi everyone, I just found out 2 weeks ago i have fibro.so does fibro in time get much worse? also does most of the common meds that most docs give for it work? i am not on any yet untill my next appt. he wants to put me on cymbalta and lyrica.so what do you think of these ones? iam kind of nerves to try a anti depressnt because i have had bad reaction in the past.so i will share this things at my next appt.i guess iam having a hard time with finding out i have this.i other things also that efect me to much to list so to have one more thing added on feels like to much.

Welcome, welcome, welcome! So glad you found this place. You'll be able to find out so much information and find compassion here. I haven't tried lyrica or cymbalta. I'm on a different therapy. BUT, a lot of people that post here have tried these medications, so I'm sure you will find some people who like the meds and some don't. It would be worth a try to see how you feel when taking them. At least your doctor listens to you!

No fibromyalgia is not necessarily progressive. My condition has improved greatly. The meds you have been prescribed are common for fibro sufferers but they don't work for everyone; I couldn't tolerate the cymbalta because of urinary retention and Lyrica didn't work for me. Magnesium and Malic Acid have helped me. I also take flexeril, tramadol, neurontin, percocet as needed.
Educate yourself on fibromyalgia. there is a lot of information here and I always recommend the book "fibromyalgia and chronic myofascial pain" by devin starlanyl. great book. saved my sanity. take it easy, stress can make the symptoms flare.
