Skin pain

I have been having weird skin sensations and they aren't fun. They sometimes feel sunburned or if I am slowly being waxed. I looked up on fibro but I don't fit in the profile. Skin pain happens on my chest my face and my upper legs. It's really like someone is pulling my body hair. I don't have rashes or visible sores. I don't feel sick. I do get aches around my chest. I have history of panic attacks. But I can say that the pain is not mental. It is real. It's getting really Annoying. I am going to see a doctor about this. Can anyone tell me what my condition may be so I can give possibilties to my doctor.

My skin does hurt when being touched but the pain is often eposidic. Most of the days I don't have skin pain but they do flare up for no reason and last for A few days.

Re: Skin pain

One more thing, my eyes do get "burned" at times. It's always behind the eyes. Again, nothing that I know trigger those flareups.

To be frank, it's really hard to find a condition that I may have. Some people say fibrologyma but the problem is that I don't have tender lymphs and the pain they describe sound a lot worse than what I have. I do NOT have "tender points" at all - the skin pain I described are scattered all over and there is NO strong local point except that they occur frequently on my chest side, my leg, and behind my eyes.

I thought about herpes but the thing is that I never had visible symptoms of herpes - I don't break out in blisters or rashes. All seem to require that it has to be "visible" while mine is totally non-visible. I am feeling pain but you just don't see it.

The only time that I truly broke out in rashes was when I took a certain antibiotic but even with that, it did not itch and it was not painful at all despite presence of blisters.

So other than possible fibro, anyone have any idea what else I could be having? A lot of people also think it's all in my mind but it isn't. I feel real pain. It's not typical pain, if its under the skin, it feels like shooting aches and on skin, it feels like someone's pulling my body hair.

Sorry for ranting. It's pretty annoying as hell. It seems like the people on this board seem to have similiar symptoms that I have except that I am not that seriously plagued with a lot of pains. The pain itself is not like screaming for me to go to ER but it does hurt and it's very distracting but it's starting to bother me mentally.

I have had those symptoms for over three years, actually but I ignored them til the pain just gets more sharp every time I have those flareups. I never discussed that with my doctor because I forget about them and they're not chronic. When they go away, I hope it's gone forever. But right now I am at the point that I really have to figure out what is exactly causing this condition.

Re: Skin pain

well, I'd say if it has gone on for 3+ yrs, it is chronic, but that is just my personal opinion.

i have extremely sensitive skin. my sensitivities are on both arms, hands, scalp (just to name a couple). i have always described it as a very intense painful sensation. i can't say it is hot or cold; it is just that my skin simply hurts. sometimes i can't even stand to have clothing against the my arms. it seems that when my scalp is heated up from my shower and then blow drying my hair, i'm ok to do a little something to my hair but there is NO touching my hair later in the day when my scalp is not warm and calm from the shower. that painful sensation is aweful. i also don't like to have air directly blow on my skin, especially cold air. likewise, i hate ceiling fans.

well, i just thought i would share my experience with you. good luck at the doc!

Re: Skin pain

Visited my doctor today and told him that I have painful sensations on my skin. Explained that it happens from time to time and that I wasn't comfortable with the abnormal sensation.

His response? "You are crazy." That's what he literally said to me! :-/ He did offer two medications known to treat neuropathic pain but asked me if I really need it.

Even though the abnormal sensations are annoying, I decided not to pursue medication for my neuropathic pain because of two major reasons: it tends to last for a few days so I can just tough the pain and two, medications he offered are known to have side effects and I don't think I can deal with any more physical symptoms. Also, the studies focused on women, not men so we don't know if it's really effective for men (I am male).

I just really hope that my sensations don't get worse over time.

Re: Skin pain

Thank you for sharing... is that the only symptom you have?

So far, the painful sensation is the only issue I have. I do have shooting aches in my muscles but I often contribute to aging or overuse or even underuse. They last for a few hours and they go away so I just don't really care and ignore them but the skin should not be that painful to touch when there is NO obvious cause and they linger for a few days.
