Savella drug due out in March 2009-we'll see.

Has anyone other than I seen or heard anything about this next targeted for fibro drug? Hope this wonder drug is better than the last 2 were. This was put on here by me in order that it may help you see that yet another new drug is triggered for fibro people.

[FONT="Times New Roman"]The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Savella™, a selective serotonin and norepinephrine dual reuptake inhibitor, for the management of fibromyalgia, a condition that can cause sleep disturbance. The drug was developed by Forest Laboratories Inc and Cypress Bioscience Inc.

"Fibromyalgia is a complicated chronic pain condition, so it is important that physicians and patients have access to treatments that have been shown to help manage the symptoms that define the experience of fibromyalgia," said a Professor of Anesthesiology and Medicine (Rheumatology) at the University of Michigan. "The introduction of Savella is important because it is the first drug approved to treat the symptoms of fibromyalgia using a composite responder analysis."

The safety and efficacy of Savella were established in two US pivotal phase 3clinical trials involving more than 2,000 patients with fibromyalgia. Savella doses of 100 mg/day and 200 mg/day demonstrated statistically significant and clinically meaningful concurrent improvements in pain, patient global assessment, and physical function. Savella is expected to be available in pharmacies by March 2009.[/FONT

Re: Savella drug due out in March 2009-we'll see.

I have heard of it. I am not getting my hopes up though. My insurance wouldn't even approve Lyrica so I doubt that they will approve this. They want me to give every antidepressant under the sun a try first. This, even though 2001-2006 I was on numerous ones and they just made me sicker.

I also hope it is better than the last 2. Although I would like to see alot more going on; I'm glad to see that there is going to be another option for us.

I looked it up and this is what it said about side effects in case anyone is interested: nausea, headache, constipation, dizziness, hot flush, hyperhidrosis (sweating alot), vomitting, increased heart rate, palpatations, dry mouth and hypertension.

Side effects seem comparible to most everything else they use to Tx FM.

I guess only time will tell. If anyone tries this med, please let us know. I am definitely interested in more inforrmation as I am in the process of finding a new med that works and works with my body.

I have heard of this new pill also. It sounds alot like the other two. I'm looking forward to the time they realize that these drugs mask the problem instead of treating the underlining cause. I take meds. but I'm hoping to get improvement from herbs, supplements and diet. The sleeping pills really do help. I have burning in my mucsles almost every day. I take Lyrica. It hasn't helped with that. Hoping for a better day.

Re: Savella drug due out in March 2009-we'll see.

I agree, this is far from a solution, it's yet another drug to keep us shelling money out. However, I think it's the best chance yet as a good medication, as it works to block the receptors in the brain from receiving the excess of pain signals that fm patients' bodies consistently produce. There are a LOT of side effects though, which may prove to be more of a problem than the benefits. I thought Lyrica and Cymbalta, amitryptaline and a variety of other drugs would help me, and they haven't. The real question is whether this drug works against substance P, which appears to be the biggest villain in creating excessive pain signals. No info is available about that in the public forum though.
