Another new Med, anyone used Tremedol? - Fibromyalgia Message Board

HI all, Other day the doc put me on yet another pain med to try called Tremedol, has anyone used it? any good? Been a bit scared to try it because the pharmacitst said some people have visions etc. Hoep all is OK today with everyone, at least the sun is shining here.

Do you mean Tramadol aka Ultram? It's a "non narcotic" pain pill. I am prescribed 50mg 4x daily. I have been on it over a year, and it does even less than ibuprofen for pain now. It works really well at first, but one thing you have to remember about it...withdrawl from Ultram is worse than any narcotic. I was feeling better at one point in time, so I didn't take it for a weekend. BIG mistake. I have never any side effects other than some drowsiness at first. No hallucinations or visions that i have been aware of. Around here, doctors prescribe Ultram because they feel it isn't as much or as bad as narcotics.

When it worked, it was good. Just try not to forget to take more than one dose.

I use tramadal and my sister in law too. It works well for us with almost no side effect or "high" feeling. I have been told that because it is a "non narcotic" that there are LESS withdrawals as compared to narcotic medication. Im sure every person may have a different reaction but in my own personal experience I have not had any withdrawals except for the expected pain from being off meds.

When I went through the withdrawl, I found it was actually very common for the withdrawl to be worse than with narcotics, but everyone is different.

The reason Tramadol tends to produce a bad withdrawal response in many folks, is because in addition to the pain killing properites of Tramadol it also has a mild SSRI (anti-depressant) effect....thus, when you stop taking it...it's the withdrawal from the SSRI that makes the process more difficult to overcome.
