I've have that problem, where your body just jerks hard all over, when you are about ready to fall asleep, or just particular muscles jerking repeadedly.

Brain tumor to be the worst senerio. Restless leg syndrome. Myoclonic jerks. Or the one that is nothing to worry about, hypnic jerks, which are a natural step in the body's transition from alertness to sleep.

I have Myoclonic jerks and restless legs---and have it not just when sleeping.

I take Klonopin and Soma (also for muscle spasms) for the most part it helps, but lately the restless legs thing is going on, and it is not just in my legs it is my arms also

I jerk when I first fall asleep. They are called "sleep starts". I guess when your body is first going into a sleep.

If you jerk a lot even while you are asleep, it might be restless leg syndrome.

Sporadic limb movements or jerking while you are asleep, not when you first fall asleep, may be what they call Periodic Limb Movement Disorder, or PLMD. It's like restless legs except it only happens when you're sleeping, and also involves your arms. Muscle relaxers and anti-spasm meds are the usual...some of the same meds used for parkinson's to reduce the jerking. You have to go through at least 1 sleep study for this to be diagnosed.

Just my 2 cents.
