Heartburn please help

I have always had heartburn very easily. Once I had a piece of lemon poppy seed bread and It gave me heartburn. When I get heartburn I have it for days. It burns goes through to my back. On Thursday I had this claim chowder and right away I noticed it. I take this acid pills and they work. I have had watermellon that seemed to go down ok. I'm burping like crazy and that's all I can taste. I noticed Heartburn is a symptom of Fibro.

I just had barbecued chicken, {very mild} with some rice. But Before then I noticed the heartburn so I took a pill before. I'm sipping on a selzter I know it's carbonated. But it helps.

My question is does anyone have heartburn? what do you do? Can I just drink nothing but water for a few days till this passes? I don't know If that's ok to do.

This has been going on since Thursday. I normally do have heartburn for days.

Re: Heartburn please help

Hi, snowbunny-
Acid reflux does seem to be a bi-product of FM. I have had it I believe all my life, but was diagnosed in 96. I always carry peppermint essential oil or candied ginger. I was taking a pill until I learned that most of the acid reflux Rx meds can raise your risk of strokes. Strokes run in my family, so I decided to try a different route. Just remember not everyone has the same relief from the same drug-whether it is natural or perscription. Have a great day~Touched

I don't think I have Acid Reflux. I was tested when I was a child. It's just when I eat certain foods that I get heartburn. I feel much better thank god. does the peppermint oil work what do you do with that? and the ginger do you eat that?

Re: Heartburn please help

Many of the meds will cause some acid reflux. Ginger tea helps, as does tums, which gives you a bit more calcium, so can be good.

Re: Heartburn please help

Tums and the like can be worse if your problem is not with acid, but with alkaline. Some people think they have an acid problem when it's an alkaline problem.

I use licorice extract, I think you need to get it from a naturopath as it can effect other meds (I think you just have to space it out when you use it with any meds), so this should be talked to with a doctor.

I have heard about peppermint and ginger, but it doesn't work for me. So like someone said- everyone is different.
