Hey Lucylucy,
The doctor that is most common for and has the most knowledge about fibromyalgia is a rheumatologist, however there is a growing number of family practitioners who are starting to see and understand that fibro is actually something wrong and not just a wastebasket diagnosis. Your chiro seems to be one of those who have some interest and understanding.... this chiro doc has also given you a lead in to bring this up to your doctor... you can mention what the chiro doc said about your trigger points and that you are interested in seeing if there is something to this. If your doc is amiable, see if you can get a referal to a rheumy and go from there. My regular doc is treating me as a "maintenance" patient. I also have hypothyroid and others that he treats and keeps an eye on with blood labs each visit, but he refered me to a rheumetologist for confirmation on my diagnosis.
Generally, fibro is detected by having 11 of the 18 known trigger points, generalized fatigue, generalized chronic pain that lasts for more than 3 months, and a host of other unexplained symptoms... like eye trouble and migraines. I hope this helps you.
