something someone said to me that hurt. :(

Someone said something to me that really hurt. I was talking about how I'm going on my 3rd year of Fibro. and they said it's just a thing, and then said you will be in my prayers. what does that mean It's just a thing? Like it's no big deal?

Well to some people it is 'just a thing' why would those words hurt you?...no one knows what it means to have it so what would you expect someone to say...we all have a 'story' to tell and burdens to bare and perhaps their burdens are such that they don't really want to know how much you are hurting. Perhaps they are watching/caring for a dying family member and just can't deal with others pains. It doesn't matter what medical condition you might have in life don't expect others to be interested or even care because they have their own things to deal with...sometimes it is just better to keep our medical conditions to ourselves then you won't be hurt by what might fall out of their mouth. she did say she would keep you in her prayers so just brush it off and don't be hurt...she didn't intentionally try to hurt you I am sure she said all that she can say about it. I've had it forever and for me it is just a thing. That's why there are support groups for various diseases like these boards so everyone can try to find some understanding about their own diseases. Just know we all here understand your pain and I am sorry the gals words hurt you.

WOW! IT IS NOT JUST A THING. And it's a SAD DAY when someone says "don't expect other to care". I care whenever someone tells me they are not doing well for whatever reason. Yes we all have our burdens in life, however if everyone was so selfish and did not care the word would be a lot more screwed up than it already is. Yes she said she will keep you in her prayers, and I'm sure she did not mean to hurt you. So lets all make an effort to start caring.

well I post on a blog about it. I have information about it posted. It just doesn't make sense to me to say. It's just a thing, and then say you are in my prayers. I'm a very sensitive person. But she obviously doesn't know what Fibro is. I just think if you don't know what something is they shouldn't say anything at all.

Some people just dont know what to say, others dont believe its that bad of a thing, look at commercials. The actors act like all they have to do is take a pill and wow, go back to work, SMILING even. You may be a very sensitive person hon, fibro does that to people. But you also have to develop a thicker skin. It took almost 20 plus years for my fibro to be diagnosed. If i had listened to all those idiot doctors that kept saying it was in my head, id never have the meds that i have now.
Some of my inlaws dont believe its that bad, i say who cares. My husband and family know how bad it gets, and thats all that matters to me. Ive got enough to worry about than trying over and over and over to get them to believe. I dont waste t hat energy on it. I accept their prayers and go on with my life. Dont let them belittle you into thinking its just a thing. You know your pain, your family knows your pain. your doctor knows your pain, and WE KNOW your pain sweetie. Just let it roll off your back, she obviously doesnt have a clue what fibro is.
