Please tell me this is as bad as it gets...

I was recently diagnosed with Fibromyalgia after a few years of symptoms. The situation now is as bad as it has ever been. I am in pain 24/7. I am so extremely tired that I spend more than half of my day in bed (either from fatigue or pain) I have severe skin pain on my back, sides and bottom & my clothing hurts. I haven't worked in months due to the severe pain. I tried Cymbalta but after 2 weeks I felt more depressed & suicidal (NOT normal for me) I was also diagnosed with MFP and I start H2O and land therapy next week. I am getting NO pain relief right now. I don't know how to cope or what to do. I see my doctor again on Thursday.
Please tell me that it doesn't get any worse than this...

Ambugirl, I am so sorry you are having such a hard time right now. I think you are in one horrific flare up and I just have to hope that there is a way out of it and back to something that can be tolerated. Have you studied up on Lyrica at all? I can no longer take it due to severe constipation, but the help it gave was fairly miraculous. I called up doctors to say thanks; I think in our group, not a lot of that happens, you know. Don't give up.

Also, firmly tell you doctor how bad the pain is and the lack of sleep. You can handle anything better with sleep. I just had major surgery and I can't take pain pills. They gave me ambien and I slept through the usual pain plus the surgery pain. Even just a few days break in this cycle can mean the difference for you. You really have to address the lack of sleep.

Amitriptylene and flexiril are another couple of old, tried-and-true aids.

Take care, and please get ready for the doctor's visit by studying up on some of these meds. Magnesium (water soluble), folic acid, fish oil, centrum -- there are some supplements that are part of the whole treatment plan. If your doctor is not knowledgeable about all of this, see a pain specialist. Make sure you see someone who takes this seriously. The lack of sleep has to be taken seriously, ok?

I agree that you need good sleep which will mean less pain and fatigue. Get a sleep aid if you need to. I take a combination of Lyrica and Savella and I am pretty much pain free. I have hydrocodone for break through pain.

I would give just about anything for a decent night's sleep. I just found a doctor in my area that has FMS and I am thinking of switching to him. He specializes in FM & pain management.

Re: Please tell me this is as bad as it gets...

I am on the fentanyl patch, soma, oxycotin, amytriplyn, for pain, also on cymbalta, ambien and trazadone for deep sleep. Its alot of pain meds, but they seem to be doing the job. Im also on lorazapam for anxiety attacks since im homebound and do get panic attacks. Took a very very long time to get the right meds plus the right dosage to control my pain. Its a trial and error method. What works for one person might not work for another.

It does take a lot of trial and error to find out what is the right combination for you.

I was on Cymbalta but it stopped being effective against he pain. I am on Savella now and it does help the pain, but I still struggle with fatigue.

Hope you find what helps!

Hugs,

Pam
