Doctor today...

Went to see my PCP today. She said my sed rate is back to almost normal (had been moderately high) and that she wants me to see a Fibro specialist (this specialist has fibro) She gave me flexerel 10mg and ambien 10mg. Wants me to see the specialist for a pain management plan. I finally feel like I have HOPE. She also is hopeful that the new Water Therapy will be helpful

I feel so optimistic & I haven't had that in years!

Re: Doctor today...

That's awesome, ambugirl, especially the fact you now have ambien. Just getting some sleep will help the rest of the treatment plan I am sure. Glad for you!

Re: Doctor today...

I had the same issue with ESR. Mine was hight then went back to normal in about 2 months. Strange....
As for the ambien. Be careful with that drug. I have it as well. Got that after my hyster due to sleep problems 5 years ago. I have been having issues with it like sleep walking!!! If I take that drug and go to sleep my husband would tell me in the morning about things we talked about that night and I havent gotten a clue what the heack he is talking about. He tells me that I get up and have total full conversations with him that I dont remember at all! I have even gotten up, go downstairs in the family room, then check on my cat, feed the cat and so on and I have no recolection about it!!!

So BE CAREFUL!!!!

Re: Doctor today...

djl - I have heard that about ambien, hopefully the kids will tell me Hubby is gone from sunday afternoon until Friday evening every week.
I had a question for you - You said that you had a hysterectomy- did you have Fibro at that time? I have some suspicions that my Fibro started at the same time I had the hyster. I had a total hyster @ age 27, almost exactly 3 years ago & that is when I started noticing the fibro symptoms

Re: Doctor today...

I am not realy sure....I had issues with chest pain and hart pals before my hyster. It did get alot worese after my hyster. Then eventualy got better. Did deal with chest pain though a couple times a year afterwards. Was told I had muscular skelatal issues. The had nureosurgery due to trama to my spinal cord. I had loss of CSF in the spinal cord. Needed fusion. Had this sugery done 1 1/2 years after my hyster.

Then about a year after that ended up with strange symptoms in my hands, severe pain and stiffness could not move them. My PCP sent me to a Rhumy. My chest pains were getting worse and more frequent. Had issues with pain in my joints through out. Wast tersted for RA, and so on everything fine but my Vt D. I would get blood test donbe every 2 months. Then the pain was so severe ended up in the ER and my hart was racing.

Ended up with a Stress Test..normal spent an 1hr or so with my PCP and she said it was Fibromyalgia...never heard of it before....then my Rhumy confirmed it....I was also dx with OA and Bursitis too.. I would say aboput 8 months opr so ago I showed a High ESR rate. Then eventualy went back to normal.

I got pain all over, totaly exauhstead sometimes, I have been flaring real bad lately my skin even hurts...UGH this is not a fun condition!!

How did you start?

Re: Doctor today...

A quick note of concern...Taking both the Flexeril 10mg and the Ambien 10mg both at night could be too much sedation if you have never been on these...I am actually very surprised they would start you with the 10mg when there is a 5mg of Ambien...as most Dr.s start slow and then you have room to move up over the years if needed..

Some people only take the Flexeril to sleep at night as it is a very sedating muscle relaxer..I was prescribed this back in '95 for my Fibro to take at night to sleep...and even though it helped some of my pain..I still didn't get to stage 4 sleep...then started getting Restless Legs each night that were just awful...those creepy crawly, toss/turn all night long so went of that..

Fast forward to the last few years after 3 cervical fusions..and was prescribed the 5mg Ambien which worked for about 2 years then moved to the 10mg...

So..just wanted to say to please be careful taking both these at night..I would double check with the Dr. and the Pharmacist to make sure when they want you to take the Flexeril...I know for me..I like my Skelaxin as a muscle relaxer as it doesn't cause any drowsiness so can take during the day...

I know we are all different...so just giving my word of caution...especially if you see a PM and end up adding any type of narcotic...most of us are on 'med combos'..but have to be very careful spacing them out and watching the respiratory effects of them combined...

I truly wish you success and help with both your pain and your sleep...I certainly agree that it is CRUCIAL to get the needed sleep...for our pain...emotions...energy..immune system repair..etc..

And yes...have your family watch you the first weeks with taking the Ambien..I had the sleep eating about 45min. after taking it but not knowing what I was doing..so just be careful..

Take care
