Fibro after surgery!

I was dx'd with Fibro almost 2 yrs ago. I have been on Lyrica since last May. I have been almost pain free for 10 mths. I did not have energy but I could sleep at night as long a I took the Lyrica. 3 wks ago I had to have my gall bladder remove. My fibro pain started about a wk before the surgery but it was mild. Ever since the surgery I have been in a bad flare. Is it just a coincidence or did the surgery cause this flare?

Re: Fibro after surgery!

Janee, I just got back from the pain specialist... yes, very definitely yes, the surgery could have caused the flare. If your fibro can be traced back to some spinal stenosis or spinal anything, the surgery could be enough to inflame nerves or nerve roots which could cause an impingement on a nerve which could cause some serious pain. What is hurting exactly?

...JANEE, I GOTTA ASK!!! My gall bladder was perfect in 2005 according to a cat scan. I took Lyrica in 2007, and yeah, I agree, it was a dang miracle drug. It caused severe constipation though and I had to come off of it in 2008. Right around that time I found out my gall bladder was hardened and full of stones... just kind of wallah, there you go, perfect in 2005, and in 2008 it's so bad we gotta take it out. I changed no eating habits during that period Any chance Lyrica had anything to do with the gall bladder?

Re: Fibro after surgery!

The pain keeps moving for a few days it was in my right jaw, righthand and wrist and knee then moved to my shoulders and now my left hand and around my right ankle. The pain will subside but keeps coming back. I had to take pain pills just to sleep last night so I would move to much because my shoulder hurt so bad.

I have been having a problem with my stomach for over a yr so I'm not sure know if the lyrica caused my gall bladder to go bad.

Hello Janee,

First of all, sorry you are experiencing a bad post surgery flair up
with your Fibro. That sounds painful and stressful.

I had my gallbladder out in 1997. I do not have Fibro but I did
have a great deal of discomfort after the procedure anyway. It
took me a full 3 weeks to rid myself of the tenderness and dis
comfort. I realize there are many who have minimal discomfort
after their gallbladder surgeries. I had the Laporoscopy done.

Hope you get more replies to your questions.

Janaly

Re: Fibro after surgery!

Janee, all you can do is keep going back to the doctor and do like bluelakelady does. Stand between the door and the doctor. What you are experiencing is a real problem. You can wait 13 weeks like I did, or you can go now and point out the obvious--this is not surgery pain; the surgery obviously flared up something. If you had fibro in the past that was treated successfully with Lyrica then you will likely get back there to that pain free life, don't you think? Hopefully something is inflamed or impinged -- something can be fixed with an injection or trigger point massage or complete rest or something. The sooner you get some help, the less anxiety and tension you have to fight against -- all that tension can make compress a nerve worse. Just saying. Isn't there research out there that spells out how bad untreated pain is--that it creates more problems? Hope something turns the corner for you.
